#OTD 78 years ago the Donbass Offensive of the Red Army during WW2 commenced.

During the operation, the Red Army advanced westwards for 300 km all along the 450-km frontline and defeated 13 German divisions. The liberation of Donbass was accomplished and Soviet soldiers approached the Dnieper. The loss of the important region, rich in coal, had a negative impact on the Third Reich’s economy.

🎙Comment by the Russian Embassy on the visit of president of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky to the United Kingdom

Key points:

Vladimir #Zelensky's visit to the #UK during yet another of his European blitz-tours came as no surprise.

Over the past few days British officials and mass media have been unanimous in their appeals to local taxpayers to fork out more to satisfy the growing appetites of the Kiev authorities for the sake of “peace”.

The Kiev regime, undoubtedly, will not resist the temptation to deploy increasingly advanced long-range weapons, provided by the West, including the requested #NATO fighter aircraft, to sow death, destruction and terror among the civilian population of #Donbass, Crimea and other Russian regions.

Evidently, #London its continuing down the road of steady and open entanglement in the Ukraine conflict.

On 29 August 2023, the Embassy of Russia in South Africa held the next movie screening

🎬Guests of the event were introduced to 2019 war drama “Opolchenochka” (“Militia Girl”) – the first feature film to be shot on the territory of Lugansk People's Republic.

🕊The film was directed by Russian screenwriter Alexey Kozlov in 2019 and with time became one of the most honest and revealing movies about the war in Donbass.

☝️ The premiere screening of “Opolchenochka” held in the Lugansk cinema “Rus” in June 2019, was very warmly received by the local audience. The defenders and civilians of Donetsk and Lugansk regions, who attended the premiere, thanked the filmmakers for their incredibly relevant work.

🇷🇺 Russian Ambassador to South Africa H.E. Mr Ilya Rogachev in his introductory remarks expressed his hope that the Alexey Kozlov’s film could help the quests of the event to better understand the influences and motivations behind Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.

On September 30, people in our country will celebrate the first anniversary of the new federal entities - the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions - joining Russia.

☝️ The residents of Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions chose not to return to the life that the neo-Nazi regime had in store for them.

🇷🇺 They upheld their right to speak the Russian language and to honour the history and culture of their ancestors, and made a conscious and free choice in favour of Russia.

🎙 Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation General of the Army Sergey Shoigu at an expanded meeting of the Defence Ministry Board (Moscow, 19 December 2023):

💬 Russian Groups of Forces have liberated an area five times larger than that of the Lugansk and Donetsk people's republics before the special military operation began.

☝️ Following the results of referendums, the Russian Federation included four new entities with a total area of more than 83,000 square kilometres and a population of about five million people.

A naval area has been created in the Sea of Azov, which has become Russia’s internal sea. Railway traffic with Donbass has been restored. A land corridor with Crimea has been operating for more than a year. Connection by rail and road has been established.

❗️Almost three million refugees who have not seen their relatives since 2014 have returned to new regions of the Russian Federation.

Extermination of the Russian population is ok according to Harry Tabach, the former chief of staff of the NATO military mission in Moscow.

👉🏼 A retired captain of the first rank of the US Navy believes that all means are good to defeat the enemy, so Kiev does not need to be “ashamed” of striking civilians.

He even dares to make a parallel to the dropping of atomic bombs by the Americans on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which served to “extinguish aggression with even greater aggression”.

❗️ Utterly cinical, yet not new. #Kiev began striking the civilian population even before the start of the special military operation, shelling the cities and villages of #Donbass for eight straight years.
🇷🇺 President Vladimir Putin held a meeting on socioeconomic development of the new Russian Federation entities – regions of Donbass and Novorossiya

👉🏼 Key points from the President’s speech:

✔️ By 2030, Donbass & Novorossiya must achieve the national level standards in the key areas that determine the quality of our people’s lives.

✔️ With this aim in view, we have launched a comprehensive development programme for our historical regions. It comprises nearly 300 events related to concrete targets in absolutely all areas, including the economy and infrastructure, healthcare and education, culture & sports.

✔️ The socioeconomic development and integration of the reunited regions are progressing, which is primarily attributable to the effective and coordinated efforts by the Government, federal ministries & agencies, and our colleagues in the regions.

✔️ Pensions and benefits are paid on a regular basis and other social support measures are being implemented as well, already reaching over 2 million people. By next year, about 3 million citizens will receive these payments.

✔️ We see the economy steadily recovering, including industry. More than 150 enterprises in the machine building, metals, mining and other essential manufacturing segments have resumed operations in these regions. We have provided support to our agricultural producers. Banks & shops are open.

✔️ Donbass and Novorossiya have become a free economic zone, much like Crimea and Sevastopol, and since then 75 companies have registered there. They have presented projects that are expected to preserve or create over 42,000 jobs.

✔️ It took the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions less than two years to renovate and upgrade 2,000 km of roads, about 6,500 residential buildings and social facilities, even if many of them had to be rebuilt from the ground up.

✔️ Other Russian regions have lent their helping hand by taking cities and villages in Donbass and Novorossiya under their patronage.

❗️Since April 7, 2024, Europe’s largest Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant has been subjected to systematic Ukrainian attacks using unmanned combat aerial vehicles.

An emergency session of the IAEA Board of Governors will soon be convened on our initiative. The issue of Ukrainian attacks on the NPP will also be raised at a UN Security Council briefing. We intend to urge specialised international organisations to recognise current developments around the Zaporozhskaya NPP and Ukraine as a whole.

▪️ Kiev launched its “counterterrorist operation” in Donbass almost a decade ago.

In effect, this was a civil war unleashed by Kiev against its then compatriots in the country’s southeast. People there demanded only one thing – respect for their lawful rights to speak the native tongue and teach children in it, know history and pay tribute to their heroes who saved the world from fascism almost 80 years ago.

During all these years, we have known very well and said this publicly that the accusation of Donbass of terrorism is a fake. <...> Now the UN International Court of Justice has confirmed this. <...> This verdict refuted Kiev’s main argument in justifying the war it unleashed against civilians.
🤍💙❤️ National #UnityDay celebrated in Russia’s Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions

🤝 National cultures festival "We Are Together" has been held in the #Lugansk People's Republic with representatives of national-cultural societies and public organizations of the LPR participating.

In the #Donetsk People's Republic, about 200 teenagers received their first passports within the framework of the "We are citizens of Russia!" program. Ceremonial presentations took place in 15 cities, including Donetsk and Yasinovataya.

🇷🇺 Various events have been held in the #Kherson and #Zaporozhye regions, including quizzes, master classes and distribution of patriotic symbols. In Berdyansk, activists unfurled a huge tricolor on the coast of the Sea of Azov, despite the stormy weather.

On Dec 15 of this year, a delegation from the Pan-African Parliament, led by Vice-President Gayo Ashebir, visited the #Donetsk People's Republic as part of their visit to Russia.

🌐 This delegation comprised representatives from 12 #African nations, including #Zambia, #Malawi, #Mozambique, #Tanzania, #Uganda, #SouthSudan, #Zambia, #Ethiopia, among others.

🕯 The delegates toured the Saur-Mogila memorial complex dedicated to the liberation of #Donbass by Soviet forces in 1943. This complex was destroyed in 2014 during clashes with Ukrainian armed forces and was completely restored in 2022.

Members of the African Parliament said they had come to #Russia to express their support for our nation and all Russians, and to reaffirm the importance of further fortifying Russian-African relations in the face of aggressive external pressure and manipulation by the so-called "collective West."

The delegates showed a profound understanding of the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, the special military operation, and the role played by Western countries in these events, including the creation of conditions leading to a shortage of Russian fertiliser and grain supplies to the African continent.

One of the outcomes of their visit was the opportunity to form an objective perspective on the situation in the Russian region, which they could then relay to their fellow citizens.

☝️ A key difference in the approaches of Western nations and Russia towards cooperation with #Africa was also highlighted: according to the Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament, our nation is characterised by respect for the interests of Africans, and a concern for the development of their economy and social sphere, in contrast to the West driven by the pursuit of profit and neo-colonial ambitions.

These evaluations by African representatives regarding the situation in Ukraine provoked an appalling reaction from the #Kiev regime. Ukraine Foreign Ministry expressed a strong protest, claiming it "contradicts the spirit of friendship and mutual respect that characterises Ukraine's relations with the African continent, and seriously damages the reputation of the Pan-African Parliament."

After that, Ukraine directly threatened the members of the delegation, who began to receive messages detailing what actions would be taken against them. Apparently, this is Ukraine's "relations" with the nations of the African continent.

🇷🇺🌍 From our standpoint, we consider the visit of the Pan-African Parliament delegation to Russia and their visit to the DPR to be a significant step towards the ongoing progressive development of Russian-African relations, in alignment with the decisions of the Russia-Africa summits and the inaugural ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum held in November.

This is the essence of freedom and democracy – individuals have the opportunity to receive first-hand information and draw their own conclusions.

🎙 President #Putin:

Residential buildings are being repaired or rebuilt. Where a building cannot be repaired, local authorities make the decision to demolish it and allocate the land for commercial development. Once developers build new housing there, buyers can purchase apartments with a mortgage at 2 percent.

☝️ Home loans with 2-percent interest continue to be available in Russia’s new regions. In fact, that has triggered quite a construction boom there.”

#PutinPresser
🎙 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov:

The #UN Charter has many more facets to it than just the principle of territorial integrity. The principle of self-determination of peoples is no less important. If it were not for it, there would likely be issues with decolonising #African and other peoples. This principle laid the international legal groundwork for decolonisation which echoed the African peoples’ unwillingness and impossibility to live under the colonisers’ rule.

☝️ By the same token, the residents of #Crimea, #Donbass and #Novorossiya are unwilling and unable to live under the #Nazi rule in #Kiev. So, the principle of self-determination of the peoples is coming into force.

❗️ They have one the self-determination part. The residents of Crimea did so in 2014, and Donbass and Novorossiya in 2022. These realities have been included in our Constitution.

#Lavrov #UNCharter #Crimea #Donbass
The problem of violation of the rights of Russian natives abroad over the past years has worsened through the efforts of Western countries, becoming an element of the state policy of their leadership.

☝️ Russia’s special military operation to denazify and demilitarize #Ukraine and protect the civilian population of #Donbass is used as a pretext for justifying discriminatory attitudes towards #Russians.

❗️Facts convincingly show that Western “model democracies” still haven’t overcome the racist views and approaches inherited from the colonial past of many of them, which allow dividing people into their own, “good”, and others – “bad”.

Naturally, neither Russia nor any other country whose leadership proceeds from the principle of equality of all people, including their citizens and compatriots, regardless of their place of residence, can put up with such a state of affairs. Otherwise, there can be no talk of observing the principle of the rule of law.

💡 Manifestations of #Russophobia also demonstrate that international human rights institutions are experiencing a systemic crisis, having become one of the instruments of the information, political and economic war against Russia. In this way, they confirm that following Russophobic policies is now an “indulgence” for the most flagrant violations of human rights and ignoring the norms of international law.
