🎙 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey #Lavrov:

[G20 Rio de Janeiro Leaders’ Declaration] has a paragraph (which starts the section) advocating for the resolution of disputes based on justice and international law, namely, the full scope of the #UN Charter.

❗️This is crucial, particularly when applied to Ukraine.

☝️ The West emphasises only the principle of territorial integrity. It dreams of Ukraine taking back the territories it had as of 1991. These lands were home to the Russian people for centuries, but the Zelensky regime disenfranchised them. They choose to look the other way when it comes to this matter, even though the other section of the Charter (Article 1) clearly states the importance of respecting human rights regardless of race, gender, language, or religion. The rights of Russian-speaking people in Ukraine regarding language and religion have been eradicated under Ukrainian legislation.

Western nations, however, dismiss these violations, because Zelensky is allegedly upholding the “European values.”

On Dec 4, the #UNGA adopted a resolution titled Eradication of Colonialism in All Its Forms and Manifestations, which was drafted by the Group of Friends in Defence of the UN Charter with the guiding role of Russia.

❗️A total of 113 countries voted for it, 63 states abstained, and none of the #UN member states voted against it.

The document was previously approved by the Special Political and Decolonisation Committee (C-24) and the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly.

☝️ The core of the abstaining group is made up of the former Western parent states, which bear the brunt of responsibility for centuries of colonial oppression of #Asian, #African and #LatinAmerican countries. This resolution was extremely unsuitable for them. However, they decided against opposing the #GlobalSouth and #East.

❗️The #UN General Assembly adopted the Russian resolution 'Combating glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance'.

The document was supported by 119 countries, with 53 voting against and ten abstained.

Almost all #African countries, including South Africa 🇿🇦 and Lesotho 🇱🇸, voted in favour of the resolution.

Among those who voted against it were #Germany, #Italy, #Canada, the #UnitedStates, #Ukraine and #Japan.

The resolution condemns any actions aimed at revising the results of World War II and forgetting its lessons, including attempts to question the decisions of the Nuremberg International Military Tribunal, to equate victims with their executioners and to desecrate the memory of those killed while fighting Nazism. The document rejects attempts to glorify the Nazi movement, neo-Nazism and members of the Waffen SS organisation in any form.

It condemns the creation of monuments and memorials, as well as public demonstrations, aiming to glorify the Nazi past, the Nazi movement and neo-Nazism, as well as attempts to proclaim members of the above-mentioned organisation and those who fought the Anti-Hitler Coalition, cooperated with Nazi movements and committed crimes against humanity as national heroes and members of national-liberation movements.

🎙 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov:

The #UN Charter has many more facets to it than just the principle of territorial integrity. The principle of self-determination of peoples is no less important. If it were not for it, there would likely be issues with decolonising #African and other peoples. This principle laid the international legal groundwork for decolonisation which echoed the African peoples’ unwillingness and impossibility to live under the colonisers’ rule.

☝️ By the same token, the residents of #Crimea, #Donbass and #Novorossiya are unwilling and unable to live under the #Nazi rule in #Kiev. So, the principle of self-determination of the peoples is coming into force.

❗️ They have one the self-determination part. The residents of Crimea did so in 2014, and Donbass and Novorossiya in 2022. These realities have been included in our Constitution.

⚠️ Kiev regime tries to subvert peace and security on the African continent

Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso are currently at the forefront of the fight against terrorist groups on the continent. They deserve the full support of the international community and that of regional organizations, Russia’s #UN Envoy Vassily Nebenzia says.

❗️ Nevertheless, there are still countries seeking to undermine the progress that has been achieved so far. To this end, they are running unscrupulous campaigns geared to spread disinformation and vilify local authorities through media outlets they control.

There are also other States that from time to time carry out deliberate actions to subvert peace and security on the continent. The Kiev regime stands out among them. Thus, the official representative of Ukraine’s intelligence, Andrey Yusov, and the Ukrainian ambassador to Senegal, Yuri Pivovarov, confirmed that the “Kiev regime” assisted in the attack on the Malian armed forces on the border with Algeria near Tinzahuaten in July 2024. This attack was carried out by an al-Qaeda-affiliate group. The response from the Sahel states was swift to come – they decisively condemned Ukraine's support for international terrorism on the continent and severed diplomatic relations with it.

🇷🇺🤝🇱🇸 45th anniversary of the Russia-Lesotho diplomatic relations

45 years ago, on Feb 1, 1980, the Soviet Union established diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Lesotho. The Embassy of the USSR & later of Russia operated in Maseru in 1983-1992.

🎙 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey #Lavrov:

Addressing Congress on Sept 11, 1990, intoxicated by “victory in the Cold War”, US President George H.W. Bush proclaimed the advent of a new world order, an order that American strategists understood as complete US dominance in the international arena, as a window of opportunity to act unilaterally without any regard for the legal restrictions embedded in the #UN Charter.

One manifestation of the “rules-based order” was Washington’s policy of geopolitically absorbing Eastern Europe.

☝️ Russia has been forced to eliminate its explosive consequences with the special military operation.

🇿🇦 This year’s opening meeting of the #G20 Foreign Ministers as part of the debut presidency of South Africa – a friendly country whose stance is in accord with #Russia’s – will take place in Johannesburg on February 20-21, a landmark event not only for Pretoria, but also for the entire African continent, which will host G20 events for the first time.

🇷🇺 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov plans to lead the Russian delegation. It is expected that most of the members of this major economic forum, as well as a wide range of invited states and international organisations, will be represented at a similar level.

☝️ The meeting will open with an address by President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, which will set the general tone for discussing global challenges and threats. The discussion will particularly focus on the international situation, which is alarmingly deteriorating under the impact of the confrontational policy by the neoliberal Western elites.

The participants will consider the current integrity and effective functioning of the global economic system. The priorities stated by the South African presidency are designed to encourage economic growth, reduce inequality and imbalances, and ensure equitable access to financing for countries in the Global South.

🤝 The South African presidency theme highlighting “solidarity, equality and sustainability” will provide solid framework for the consultations, essentially continuing in the same vein as its predecessors in 2022-2024 – Indonesia, India and Brazil, all of them Global Majority countries. In particular, this refers to the G20’s significant contribution during this period to strengthening the foundations of the multipolar world and making global economic institutions more democratic in the interests of new non-Western centres of influence, primarily the expanded #BRICS group.

❗️The upcoming anniversaries, such as the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II and the foundation of the #UN, as well as the 65th anniversary of the Russia-sponsored Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples adopted by the UN General Assembly to ensure Africa’s independence, should be seen as key benchmarks for the exchange of views.

👉 In his remarks, the Minister will provide a detailed analysis of the international situation underscoring the root causes of the current crisis, and outline specific steps to overcome the destructive phenomena. The Russian side will reaffirm its stance in favour of preserving the United Nations’ central role in global affairs. We will speak in support of strict compliance with the principles of the UN Charter in their entirety and interconnection.

We will insist that there is no alternative to respectful interstate cooperation and ensuring equal and indivisible security for all. We will call for keeping the global economy open, rejecting trade wars, illegitimate sanctions and other unfair competition practices. We will cite examples of supranational associations that practice honest and productive cooperation without diktat or blackmail, such as the #EAEU, the #SCO and #BRICS. We will share the details of implementing the Russia-sponsored Greater Eurasian Partnership initiative.

The Minister is expected to meet with several counterparts on the sidelines of the meeting.

🇷🇺🇿🇦 On Feb 21, 2025, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg

🤝 During the meeting, held in a constructive atmosphere, the ministers discussed topical issues of the development of bilateral relations of strategic partnership, with an emphasis on expanding trade and economic ties.

☝️ The sides emphasised the importance of enhancing Moscow and Pretoria’s foreign policy coordination at international platforms, such as the #UN, #BRICS and the #G20, as well as the #RussiaAfrica dialogue.

The ministers discussed the current international situation, with a focus on the Palestinian issue and the overall situation in the Middle East and North Africa.

☝️ The ministers noted the similar approach to settling conflicts in #Africa, including the situation in the African Great Lakes region, and the role of the African Union in maintaining peace and security on the continent.

Sergey Lavrov informed his South African counterpart about the results of Russian-US contacts on the Ukrainian issue held in Riyadh, including the need to achieve a settlement through eradicating the root causes of the crisis, which the #NATO and #EU leaders had plotted for a long time.

🎙 From the Russian FM Sergey Lavrov’s interview with Krasnaya Zvezda media holding (02 March 2025)

In 1970, they came to the conclusion and adopted a detailed Declaration on all the principles of the #UN Charter, how they are interconnected. As regards territorial integrity and the right of nations to self-determination, it was unanimously established by consensus at the highest level that everyone must respect the territorial integrity of states that observe the principle of the right of nations to self-determination and therefore they have a government representing the entire population living in a given territory.

❗️ Just as the colonizers did not represent the population of their colonies in 1960 (that is why this principle prevailed), so in Ukraine after the coup d'état they immediately said that they would cancel the status of the Russian language, and those who did not accept the results of the putsch were declared terrorists. Since 2019, a series of laws have been enacted that exterminate the Russian language in all spheres.

How can one say that this "group of putschists" represents the population of Donbass, Novorossiya and the more so Ukraine?

☝️ Thus, the #UN Charter should not be touched. It’s up-to-date. It only needs to be respected and implemented. Without saying that when Kosovo declared independence without any referendum – this is the right to self-determination, and when Crimea held a transparent referendum with the participation of hundreds of European observers, parliamentarians and public figures – this is a violation of the principle of territorial integrity of Ukraine. Duplicity, cynicism, hypocrisy - this is what we have to deal with.
