📅 On September 7, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey #Lavrov attended the 18th East Asia Summit (#EAS) held in Jakarta.
During the exchange of views on the main issues on the Asia-Pacific agenda, the Minister informed his partners on Russia’s consistent approach to strengthening the architecture of equal and indivisible security in the region and ensuring its high development pace. He highlighted the importance of maintaining the mechanisms of multilateral cooperation within the framework of #ASEAN coordinates in the spirit of a constructive non-politicised dialogue and creative cooperation based on the principles of consensus, mutual respect and a balance of interests.
☝️ Sergey Lavrov pointed out the risks of militarisation in East Asia in light of NATO’s efforts to install its forces and infrastructure in the region based on the West-created bloc mechanisms for network deterrence and the promotion of #AUKUS confrontational project, which provides for the deployment of a military strategic complex with a nuclear component in the region.
He emphasised the importance of building up practical effort within the EAS framework, including the implementation of the Russian initiatives on responding to epidemic threats, developing the tourism industry, and establishing sustainable ties between volunteer organisations in the Asia-Pacific region.
🤝 The Minister reaffirmed Russia’s resolve to create a solid framework of interstate cooperation in the region through the alignment of the capabilities of multilateral mechanisms that are working in the spirit of positive co-development, including the strengthening of constructive interaction between ASEAN, #SCO and #EAEU.

⚡️ Foreign Ministry statement on the grain deal
Concluded in Istanbul on July 22, 2022, the Black Sea Initiative to export Ukrainian food products (suspended on July 17) has been receiving a lot of attention. Against this backdrop, the Foreign Ministry considers that it must once again set forth Russia’s position in this regard, in detail.
👉 The global price of grain is steadily declining, having decreased in the range of 4 to 5 percent in August to reach levels 25 to 40 percent below its peak in March 2022, contradicting the alarmist statements by the West and the UN Secretariat on surging food prices and the imminent threat of hunger.
Overall, there is no global food shortage in physical terms, while there are challenges in terms of distributing, not producing, food.
👉 Ukraine’s role as the world’s breadbasket has also been blown out of proportion, once again at the initiative of the West and the United Nations. In fact, this country accounts for a relatively small portion of global wheat exports at about 5 percent, and this share has become even smaller recently due to objective factors, considering, among other things, the decrease in the planted acreage as a result of soil contamination by radioactive and chemical toxins following the use of depleted uranium munitions supplied by the West.
☝️If the West and Kiev really need the Black Sea corridor, it is high time for them to take concrete steps to lift the illegal unilateral sanctions imposed on Russian entities which are involved in producing and exporting agricultural products and fertilisers.
❗️Russia reaffirms its position of principle as set forth by President Vladimir Putin on September 4. We stand ready to explore opportunities for reviving the Black Sea Initiative. However, this can happen only once all the requirements are met to lift sanctions imposed on the Russian companies dealing with agricultural products and fertilisers.

🎖 9 сентября – День памяти русских воинов, павших при обороне Севастополя и в Крымской войне 1853-1856 годов. Сегодня мы вспоминаем тех, кто 170 лет назад отдал свою жизнь, защищая город русской морской славы.
Крымская война начиналась как очередной конфликт России и Турции. В попытке сохранить своё влияние на Балканах Османская империя обратилась за помощью к Великобритании и Франции. Так очередная русско-турецкая война переросла в масштабное противостояние между Россией и коалицией европейских государств.
Основные события конфликта разворачивались в 1854-1855 годах на юго-западном побережье Крыма. Здесь находилась главная военно-морская база России – #Севастополь, потеря которого означала бы утрату контроля над Чёрным морем. Героическая оборона города продлилась 349 дней – с 25 сентября 1854 года по 9 сентября 1855 года.
Условия жизни севастопольцев были невыносимыми: не хватало боеприпасов, продовольствия, медикаментов. Защитники порта, однако, демонстрировали истинное мужество, регулярно отражая штурмы и совершая дерзкие вылазки. В осаждённом городе был тяжело ранен гений фортификации Э.И.Тотлебен, героически погиб прославленный адмирал П.С.Нахимов.
Когда противник всё же вошёл в Севастополь, от него оставались одни руины. Все сохранившиеся у русских корабли были затоплены, уцелевшие бастионы – взорваны. 30 марта 1856 года был подписан Парижский мирный договор, по условиям которого Севастополь и другие крымские города возвращались России в обмен на территории, занятые российскими войсками в Турции.
🕯 Потери русской армии за всё время Крымской войны составили свыше 522 тысячи человек, из них за период Севастопольской обороны – 102 тысячи.
Меньше чем через сто лет подвиг защитников города повторили воины Красной армии в дни второй Севастопольской обороны 1941 – 1942 годов. «Легендарный Севастополь, неприступный для врагов», пронёс свою боевую славу через века и сегодня остаётся живым памятником доблести и мужества своих защитников.

🎖 September 9 marks the Day of Remembrance of Russian Soldiers who Fell during the Defence of Sevastopol and in the Crimean War of 1853-1856. Today, we pay tribute to those who gave their lives 170 years ago while defending the city of Russian naval glory.
The Crimean War started as a conflict between Russia and Turkey. In an effort to preserve its influence in the Balkan region, the Ottoman Empire requested assistance from the United Kingdom and France. Thus, yet another Russo-Turkish war escalated into a large-scale confrontation between Russia and a coalition of European states.
The main events during the conflict unfolded in 1854-1855 on the south-western Crimean coast where #Sevastopol, Russia’s main naval base, was located. The city’s heroic defence lasted 349 days, from September 25, 1854 until September 9, 1855.
The port’s defenders displayed genuine bravery while repelling regular enemy assaults and making daring raids. Eduard Totleben, a brilliant Russian military engineer famous for his fortifications, was gravely wounded in the besieged city. Famed admiral Pavel Nakhimov died a hero’s death during the defence of Sevastopol.
When the enemy eventually entered Sevastopol, they found nothing but ruins. All surviving Russian ships were scuttled and remaining strongholds blown up. On March 30, 1856, the warring parties signed the Peace Treaty of Paris, which returned Sevastopol and other Crimean cities to Russia in exchange for the territories seized by Russian forces in Türkiye.

Red Army soldiers repeated the heroic feat of the city’s defenders less than 100 years later during the second defence of Sevastopol in 1941-1942. “Legendary Sevastopol, unassailable for enemies” retained its combat glory through the ages and remains a living monument to the valour and bravery of its defenders.
