Georgia, Azerbaijan, Romania, and Hungary established a company for the electric cable project

The Azerbaijan-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor project, initiated two years ago in Bucharest, is entering a new key phase. A joint venture has been established to conduct a feasibility study and oversee the implementation of a project to supply gas from the Caspian region to the countries of Eastern Europe. The Romania-based company will be responsible for the implementation of the project.

The signing ceremony took place within the framework of the eighth ministerial meeting in Bucharest, which was attended by representatives of #Azerbaijan, #Georgia, #Romania, and #Hungary

On December 17, 2022, an agreement on the supply of electricity from Azerbaijan was signed in Bucharest. Supplies will be made from Azerbaijan through Georgia and Romania via an underwater cable on the bottom of the Black Sea.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday discussed the war in Ukraine in a call with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is casting himself as a possible peacemaker.

“There was a thorough exchange of views on Ukrainian issues,” the Kremlin said in its readout of the call, adding that Putin said Kyiv had adopted a “destructive” position that ruled out a peace agreement.

In October, the EU purchased gas from Russia for 1.3 billion euros, which is 21% more than in October 2023

🔹EU countries paid €701.5 million for LNG from Russia in October, which is 28% more than in September 2024 and 26% more than in October 2023
The main importers were:
🇫🇷 #France (€366 million - the maximum since December 2022)
🇪🇸 #Spain (€141.5 million)
🇳🇱 #Netherlands (€93.6 million).
🇧🇪 #Belgium reduced its purchase of LNG from Russia by almost half - to €73.1 million.

🔸 Russian pipeline gas imports, on the contrary, fell to a minimum since June 2024 (€603 million)
The leaders in purchases were:
🇭🇺 #Hungary (€231 million - the maximum since January 2024),
🇬🇷 #Greece (€150 million)
🇸🇰 #Slovakia (€124 million).
🇮🇹 #Italy reduced gas imports from Russia to a minimum since the beginning of the year — €85 million.

⚠️According to the RePower EU program, the European Union intended to reduce its dependence on Russian oil and gas by 2/3 by the end of 2022 and reduce it to zero by the end of 2027.
At the same time, the cost of purchasing Russian LNG for the EU has increased by 150% in three years due to an increase in prices and volumes of LNG supplies

- NEWS - EU Renews Russia Sanctions After Hungary Stalling

The European Union on Monday agreed to extend its sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine, after Hungary agreed to the move following weeks of stalling.

"EU foreign ministers just agreed to extend again the sanctions on Russia. This will continue to deprive Moscow of revenues to finance its war," the bloc's foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas wrote on X.

#BREAKING | Hungary's minister of foreign affairs declared that the nation will not approve extension of the EU's sanctions imposed on Russia.

Without approval of all the EU member states, sanctions will not be renewed and lose their legal power. The vote was scheduled for February 24.
