The consideration comed in response to a plan by #Greece and #Cyprus to build a naval base in the south of the island.
– Today marks 50 years since #Türkiye launched an invasion of #Cyprus in response to a coup by Greek nationalists aiming to unite the island with #Greece.
The invasion led to the island's division, up until today, into the Turkish-controlled north and the Greek Cypriot-controlled south.

- NEWS - Two people have died in a rugged area in central #Greece while trying to help firefighters tackle a forest fire that has forced several villages to be evacuated, authorities have said.
The fire service has deployed 350 firefighters with 110 vehicles and 18 aircraft (seven planes and eleven helicopters) to the scene. On Monday afternoon, 13 additional vehicles from the Western Macedonia region joined the firefighting effort.

🔹EU countries paid €701.5 million for LNG from Russia in October, which is 28% more than in September 2024 and 26% more than in October 2023
The main importers were:
🇫🇷 #France (€366 million - the maximum since December 2022)
🇪🇸 #Spain (€141.5 million)
🇳🇱 #Netherlands (€93.6 million).
🇧🇪 #Belgium reduced its purchase of LNG from Russia by almost half - to €73.1 million.
🔸 Russian pipeline gas imports, on the contrary, fell to a minimum since June 2024 (€603 million)
The leaders in purchases were:
🇭🇺 #Hungary (€231 million - the maximum since January 2024),
🇬🇷 #Greece (€150 million)
🇸🇰 #Slovakia (€124 million).
🇮🇹 #Italy reduced gas imports from Russia to a minimum since the beginning of the year — €85 million.
⚠️According to the RePower EU program, the European Union intended to reduce its dependence on Russian oil and gas by 2/3 by the end of 2022 and reduce it to zero by the end of 2027.
At the same time, the cost of purchasing Russian LNG for the EU has increased by 150% in three years due to an increase in prices and volumes of LNG supplies
