Moscow residents and guests of the capital will be able to see a large-scale landscape show «Waves of Flowers». There will be three «waves» in total: from primrose flowers to the latest plants. Each of them corresponds to one of the seasons - spring, summer and autumn.

🌃✨Lights of Moscow - How Moscow was illuminated in the past and today

💡In 1731, the first street lamps were lit in Moscow. They were lit from September to May, when there was no moon. The residents themselves paid for the lighting: a fee from 50 kopecks to 1 ruble 25 kopecks was charged from each residential building in the illuminated areas. Oil lanterns gave a little light, and the lighting area was very small. Therefore, lanterns were placed in the center every 21 meters.

💡Now Moscow is one of the five most illuminated cities in the world, and almost a million lamps shine on its streets. In addition, architectural monuments are illuminated in the capital, and on holidays you can see a lot of garlands and glowing designer lamps. This adds aesthetics to the night city and gives it a special charm.

#OTD 🎭18 January 1825 the Bolshoi (literally "Big") Theatre was inaugurated in Moscow.

🇷🇺There are few places in Russia’s capital that are as symbolic, as imperial and as deeply associated with Moscow’s history and spirit as the Bolshoi Theatre. It goes like this: the Kremlin, Red Square and the Bolshoi. Nothing else compares.

🏛The Bolshoi is actually much larger than even the eye can tell at first glance. David Leigh, an opera singer who performed there several times, explains: “In order to really understand this, you’d have to go backstage. The theater has two public auditoriums, 3 restaurants, an indoor courtyard with a fountain, several hundred coaching rooms, four costume shops, dozens of huge rehearsal rooms, a private, indoor theater the exact dimensions of the main stage, complete with orchestra pit (this is insane…), and an entire hospital for dancers and musicians.”

✅Though Leigh has experience of singing at the Met, the Lincoln Center and other great operas of the world, he admits: “No opera house in the world has ever made me feel as dwarfed as the Bolshoi did.”
