Today we are taking you to the most romantic place in Crimea - Swallow's Nest Castle, one of the most popular attractions of Crimea.
Swallow's Nest Castle has long been a symbol and a kind of visiting card of Crimea for more than 100 years of its existence. The castle, like a swallow's nest, is built on a rock above the sea.

🗺It was built between 1911 and 1912, on top of the 40-metre-high (130 ft) Aurora Cliff, in a Neo-Gothic design by the Russian architect Leonid Sherwood.

🌬Almost every significant place in Crimea has its own fabulous history. So the legend of the Swallow's Nest castle tells about the failed love of the god of the sea Poseidon and the goddess of the dawn Aurora.

👑Aurora loved to meet the dawn on the rock and one day Poseidon saw her and fall in love. But the goddess rejected his love. Poseidon went to the trick, decided to charm Aurora with a magical diadem, asked the god of the winds Aeolus to hide the sun with clouds. While waiting for the sun, Aurora dozed off. Poseidon crept up and almost bewitched the goddess, but she woke up and escaped. The tiara fell and hit the rock, part of the diamond from the crown fell into the crevice. When the clouds cleared, a ray of sunlight hit the shard, which turned into a castle.🏰

🕰One of the most significant events of WWII history happened in Crimea (town Yalta) and known as The Yalta Conference (codenamed "Argonaut "), also known as the Crimea Conference.

🤝It was held 4–11 February 1945 and actually it was the meeting of the heads of government of the USA, the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union to discuss the postwar reorganization of Germany and Europe.
The three states were represented by General Secretary Joseph Stalin, President Franklin Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

📜The Yalta Conference of the leaders of the USSR, the USA and the UK had great historical significance. It was one of the largest international meetings of wartime, an important milestone of cooperation between the powers of the anti-Hitler coalition in waging war against a common enemy. The adoption of agreed decisions at the conference once again showed the possibility of cooperation between countries with different social systems. It was one of the last conferences before the atomic era.

➡️Some agreements of the Yalta-Potsdam system are still functioning: this is the UN, the preservation of the immutability of borders in Europe (with the exception of some countries) and in the Far East (the borders between the USSR and Japan, the independence of the DPRK and the Republic of Korea, the territorial integrity of the PRC).

🔴One of the most significant places not only for Russian history, but the history of mankind is located in Crimea - Kiik-Koba Caves.
Kiik-Koba Caves (or Grotto) is a settlement of the Stone Age people, who lived there more than 100.000 years ago.
The Kiik-Koba Settlement was discovered by Soviet archeologist Gleb Bonch-Osmolovsky in 1924.

🗺️It is located on the right bank of the Zuya River, about 25 km east of Simferopol. It is a shallow canopy open to the south and well warmed by the sun's rays under the rocks. There is a spring water source nearby.

🗿The most amazing finds were the remains of a Paleolitic woman dating back 100,000 BC. Not far from the woman, at a distance of about a meter, the remains of a one-year-old child, buried a little later, were found. Also, more than 600 exhibits of primitive tools, bones of extinct animals were found in the cave: cave bear, saiga, mammoth bones and other animals.

🏹 Making your way through the cultural layers, in fact, you are immersed in the history of man and the evolution of tools of labor and hunting. The evolution of hunting tools, from the sharpened stone to the arrowhead, significantly expanded the diet of Neanderthal man.

#AmazingRussia 🤍💙 The Pskov region, Orekhovno Estate

📍The Pskov region is home to the only European garden in Russia, the Orekhovno estate. It belongs to Russian landscape architect Alexander Grivko, who created the garden in memory of his mother. Despite its status as a private estate, the area is open to the public.

🌳Orekhovno is distinguished by the fact that different styles are combined in one garden: Renaissance garden, English landscape garden, French regular and Russian manor garden.

🏰In the center of the estate was built a small castle in the Norman style. On one side it is surrounded by an Italian garden with lilies of the valley, crocuses, snowdrops and a sculpture of Cupid with a bow. On the other side the castle is surrounded by winding paths of an English landscape garden. Empress Catherine II started the fashion for them in Russia.

🌺🍃Here you can stroll through green rooms, where instead of walls there are hedges of linden, briar and thuja. There are also estates and a greenhouse with exotic plants on the territory. Its pink apple trees are particularly popular.

Do you know that in Russia you can visit the capital of the Golden Horde?

🏰A man-made city of the Middle Ages was left in the Astrakhan region after the filming of the movie "The Horde". The ancient city of Sarai-Batu was founded by the grandson of Genghis Khan - Batu Khan - in 1250. It stood on the Great Silk Road, which allowed it to grow and develop.

🏹Today it is one of the most famous tourist bases. Here you can shoot with a bow and crossbow in a special shooting gallery. The best shooters are entitled to a memorable gift.

🥣You can have a snack in a local cafe. And in a real nomadic yurt you should try sweets and pastries, delicious tea, get acquainted with traditions and customs of steppe people. Here they serve kaurdak of young steppe lamb - traditional roast meat.

🐫Here adults and children can also ride camels. During the ride the animal stops against the picturesque view of the Ashuluk river cliff, where you can take pictures.

🙈Have you ever seen torture chambers? They are also in the complex. They present a variety of torture instruments, each of which is described by guides. You can mint a commemorative coin at one of the chambers.
