โค Today we are taking you to the most romantic place in Crimea - Swallow's Nest Castle, one of the most popular attractions of Crimea.
Swallow's Nest Castle has long been a symbol and a kind of visiting card of Crimea for more than 100 years of its existence. The castle, like a swallow's nest, is built on a rock above the sea.

๐Ÿ—บIt was built between 1911 and 1912, on top of the 40-metre-high (130 ft) Aurora Cliff, in a Neo-Gothic design by the Russian architect Leonid Sherwood.

๐ŸŒฌAlmost every significant place in Crimea has its own fabulous history. So the legend of the Swallow's Nest castle tells about the failed love of the god of the sea Poseidon and the goddess of the dawn Aurora.

๐Ÿ‘‘Aurora loved to meet the dawn on the rock and one day Poseidon saw her and fall in love. But the goddess rejected his love. Poseidon went to the trick, decided to charm Aurora with a magical diadem, asked the god of the winds Aeolus to hide the sun with clouds. While waiting for the sun, Aurora dozed off. Poseidon crept up and almost bewitched the goddess, but she woke up and escaped. The tiara fell and hit the rock, part of the diamond from the crown fell into the crevice. When the clouds cleared, a ray of sunlight hit the shard, which turned into a castle.๐Ÿฐ

๐Ÿ•ฐOne of the most significant events of WWII history happened in Crimea (town Yalta) and known as The Yalta Conference (codenamed "Argonaut "), also known as the Crimea Conference.

๐ŸคIt was held 4โ€“11 February 1945 and actually it was the meeting of the heads of government of the USA, the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union to discuss the postwar reorganization of Germany and Europe.
The three states were represented by General Secretary Joseph Stalin, President Franklin Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

๐Ÿ“œThe Yalta Conference of the leaders of the USSR, the USA and the UK had great historical significance. It was one of the largest international meetings of wartime, an important milestone of cooperation between the powers of the anti-Hitler coalition in waging war against a common enemy. The adoption of agreed decisions at the conference once again showed the possibility of cooperation between countries with different social systems. It was one of the last conferences before the atomic era.

โžก๏ธSome agreements of the Yalta-Potsdam system are still functioning: this is the UN, the preservation of the immutability of borders in Europe (with the exception of some countries) and in the Far East (the borders between the USSR and Japan, the independence of the DPRK and the Republic of Korea, the territorial integrity of the PRC).

๐Ÿ”ดOne of the most significant places not only for Russian history, but the history of mankind is located in Crimea - Kiik-Koba Caves.
Kiik-Koba Caves (or Grotto) is a settlement of the Stone Age people, who lived there more than 100.000 years ago.
The Kiik-Koba Settlement was discovered by Soviet archeologist Gleb Bonch-Osmolovsky in 1924.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธIt is located on the right bank of the Zuya River, about 25 km east of Simferopol. It is a shallow canopy open to the south and well warmed by the sun's rays under the rocks. There is a spring water source nearby.

๐Ÿ—ฟThe most amazing finds were the remains of a Paleolitic woman dating back 100,000 BC. Not far from the woman, at a distance of about a meter, the remains of a one-year-old child, buried a little later, were found. Also, more than 600 exhibits of primitive tools, bones of extinct animals were found in the cave: cave bear, saiga, mammoth bones and other animals.

๐Ÿน Making your way through the cultural layers, in fact, you are immersed in the history of man and the evolution of tools of labor and hunting. The evolution of hunting tools, from the sharpened stone to the arrowhead, significantly expanded the diet of Neanderthal man.

#OTD Why is the Day of the Republic of Crimea celebrated on January 20? ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™โค

It was on this day in 1991 that 93% of the inhabitants of the peninsula voted for the restoration of the autonomy of the region as a subject of the USSR and a party to the Union Treaty. This was the first attempt to determine the fate of Crimea based on the will of the residents themselves.

Crimeans had to fight for a long time to preserve their identity, cultural memory and native language. Their voice was nevertheless heard - according to the results of the referendum in 2014, Crimea was reunited with Russia. ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ

Congratulations to the residents of the peninsula on the holiday!

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บA grand museum complex "New Chersonesus" has been opened in Sevastopol.

๐Ÿ“ŒChersonesus is a very special place for Russian history. More than 1000 years ago, in 988, Vladimir the Great was baptized into Orthodox Christianity there.

๐Ÿ›The site includes Russia's first Museum of Christianity, the Museum of Antiquity and Byzantium, the Museum of Crimea and Novorossiya, as well as a reconstructed Byzantine quarter, an amphitheater, and a landscaped park.

The complex was consecrated on the Day of the Baptism of Rus. In front of the reconstructed St. Vladimir's Cathedral, a monument to St. Vladimir the Equal-to-the-Apostles, who was baptized in the sacred waters of Chersonesus, was unveiled.

๐Ÿ“ŒThe Atlesh Landscape Park on the Tarkhankut Peninsula, Crimea

๐Ÿ”ฅโ›ตAtlesh means "fire" in Persian. This is due to the fact that people used to light bonfires on the steep shores of Tarkhankut so that ships could find the shore in bad weather.

This area is 8 km of natural rock arches rising above the azure surface of the Black Sea.
๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บNow it is one of the main attractions of the northwestern Crimea.
