Vladimir Putin addressed participants of 2nd International Tiger Conservation Forum

“Strengthening international cooperation and exchanging experience with those who have succeeded in the conservation of the tiger is of particular importance. I am pleased to praise the achievements of our colleagues from India, Nepal, Bhutan, and China, where the tiger populations are growing steadily. We in Russia also have something to be proud of. Twelve years ago, there were no more than 390 adult Amur tigers in our Far Eastern taiga. Now there are about 750 of them, including cubs. This is the result of systematic measures implemented at the state level, but above all, a tangible result of the coordinated, hard work of Russian scientists, enthusiasts, and environmental organisations,” the President noted.

Vladimir Putin met with young environmentalists

The President and participants in the Ecosystem: Protected Area National Environmental Youth Forum discussed environmental education in schools, construction of a new youth centre in Kamchatka and conservation of unique nature sites. They specifically focused on waste disposal.

"We know very well that the majority of waste, around 50%, consists of packaging. The island I have mentioned, in the Pacific Ocean, is built of plastic, mainly packaging and non-degradable waste. Naturally, the entire world has taken decisions concerning the accountability of packaging producers. The principle is simple: anything you produce you must be able to destroy or pay for its destruction. This is the principle in place in Russia. But it takes time for it to be widely implemented," the President stressed.
