The most insane part about such projects is that the first visual tests of Atomic Heart were published in 2008, it was a set of animations and lore articles, more like another SCP Foundation.

Over the 15 years, they turned down the idea to make a movie and decided to create the game instead, then scaled down the open-world aspect, making it much less abstract, leaving the craziest parts to be Limbo. It was way more like Death Stranding with some endless landscapes and small points of interest.
