Torzhok!
Once this city was the largest trade center of ancient Russia, hence its name. We tell you what is worth visiting in Torzhok!

Tikhvin Church

This is a wooden temple of the XVII century on the bank of the Tvertsa River. The first mention of the temple dates back to 1625, and in 1883 it was re-consecrated in honor of the Tikhvin icon of the Mother of God. The height of the temple reaches 34 meters, it is built of pine. Today it is a monument of federal significance, a cultural heritage of Russia.

Novotorzhsky Borisoglebsky Monastery

This is one of the oldest monasteries in Russia, founded in 1038 in honor of Saints Boris and Gleb. The architectural complex of the monastery includes buildings of the XVII-XIX centuries, including the famous cathedral and bell tower. In the XVIII century it was rebuilt by architect N.A. Lvov, adding light openings and acoustic features. The monastery is open for visits, and the bell tower offers a panoramic view of the city.

Pozharsky cutlets

The Pozharsky family in Torzhok was famous for its hospitality and the inn where the famous “Pozharsky cutlets” were served. In the 1830s Daria Pozharskaya improved the family recipe, replacing veal in the cutlets with chicken. The dish quickly became popular among travelers, including A.S. Pushkin and even Nicholas I. The cutlets, which became a symbol of Torzhok, entered cookbooks and became the city's calling card.
