💃 On 19 October the State Kremlin Palace was again a center of attraction for dance fans - it hosted the “VI Kremlin Cup”, which has already become a symbol of the Russian ballroom dancing.

23 couples in the group of the professionals including representatives from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Romania, Uzbekistan, Croatia, and South Africa took part in the event.

🇿🇦The performance of the South African couple Mira-Elena Tokarenko and Ryno van den Berg was dedicated to the end of their thirty-year dancing career. They chose for this occasion the Moscow parquet on which Ryno had been performing in Russia for many years. This time it was an amazingly beautiful pasodoble, with absolutely stunning playing by Ryno's cape.

👏 Our congratulations to the couple on their successful participation in the event and completion of their career!

🌟 87 years ago, #OTD In 1937, the famous ruby stars were lit over the Kremlin in Moscow – the same ones that can be seen today. They replaced the previous stainless steel stars decorated with Ural semi-precious stones which lost their luster.

The new stars shined for real. Specially designed lamps with double filaments were installed in each, so if one burns out, the lamp continues to be illuminated. At the base of each star a bearing was mounted, so the huge objects - each weighing a ton - could rotate like weather vanes.

The Kremlin stars have been extinguished only twice. During the Great Patriotic War the lights were turned off so Nazi planes couldn’t detect the Kremlin. The second time: Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov asked special permission to turn them off so he could film a scene from his “The Barber of Siberia” movie in the Kremlin.

The Moscow Metro subway system continues to grow rapidly. In 2023 alone, 14 new stations were opened and, in the last five years, more than 40! Each has its own, unique design. And Muscovites voted for the most successful ones.

🚝 Elektrozavodskaya

This ‘Big Circle Line’ station opened in 2020. You can transfer from it to the station of the same name on the ‘blue’ Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line. On one of its walls is a huge glass panel called ‘Battle of Heroes’ depicting a historical plot and the image of the defender of Old Russia. An interesting view of the image opens from the large round openings of the pedestrian gallery.

🚝 Michurinsky Prospekt

This ‘Big Circle Line’ station was opened in 2021. You can transfer from it to the station of the same name on the ‘yellow’ Solntsevskaya line, opened earlier, in 2018. The main feature of the design of this station are the red columns and ceiling panels with LED lighting. Some of them depict Chinese ornaments symbolizing the “friendship of nations”.

🚝 Nagatinsky Zaton

This ‘Big Circle Line’ station opened in 2023. When going outside, passengers get a picturesque view of the Moskva River. Therefore, the station was decorated with huge mosaic panels depicting fish.

🚝 Filatov Lug

This station on the ‘red’ Sokolnicheskaya line was opened in 2019. It’s an above ground station and its large panoramic windows let in daylight all year round. The designers were inspired by the stations of the 19th century: Waterloo in London, Pennsylvania Station in New York and Kievsky railway station in Moscow. Hence the abundance of glass and high vaulted ceilings.

🚝 Airport Vnukovo

This station on the ‘yellow’ Solntsevskaya line was opened in 2023. It is absolutely unique not only for Moscow, but also for the whole of Russia, as it is the first (and, so far, the only) subway station that leads directly to an airport! That is why its design is reminiscent of the civilian airplanes by the Tupolev Design Bureau, which the airport is dedicated to.

📆 83 years ago, when #Nazi forces were in the close vicinity of #Moscow, a legendary fight at Dubosekovo railroad station took place which went down in history as the feat of the 28 Panfilov’s men.

On 16 Nov 1941, Nazis launched a new assault on the #Soviet capital expecting to bring the blitzkrieg to a victorious conclusion by the end of the year. In the morning that day, after a preliminary artillery shelling the Wehrmacht’s 2nd Tank Division attacked the units of the Red Army’s 316th Rifle Division led by Major General Ivan Panfilov.

The 4th and the 6th companies of the 2nd battalion of the 1075th regiment took the brunt of Nazi offensive. Having ran short of ammunition, both companies showed unparalleled courage against superior enemy’s forces and repelled several tank attacks with remaining grenades and Molotov cocktails. The Panfilov’s men withstood the Nazi onslaught for 4 hours while the reserves came to cover the capital.

☝️ During the battle, 18 German tanks were destroyed, but almost all Soviet defenders laid down their lives.

🌟 It was during the battle of Dubosekovo that the commander of the 4th company V.Klochkov said the legendary phrase “Russia is vast, yet there’s nowhere to retreat – Moscow is behind us”.

🇺🇸🎙 US Media Personality and Political Commentator Jackson Hinkle - Exclusively for the Russian Embassy in South Africa

▫️ On the International Russophile Movement (MIR) Conference in Johannesburg (November 13, 2024):

My experience at the International Russophile Movement conference in Johannesburg was nothing short of inspiring. It was a gathering of people who share a commitment to traditional values and a vision for a multipolar future. #Africa, in particular, has a rich history of coexistence between Islam and Christianity - much like Russia - and this theme resonated throughout the event. We heard from a diverse range of speakers, not only from South Africa but across Africa, China, Russia, and the United States.

This year, I also had the opportunity to participate in the Second Congress of the International Russophile Movement in Moscow. It was, in my opinion, one of the best gatherings of minds from around the world I’ve ever witnessed. There are few, if any, events that bring together such a broad spectrum of cultures and ideas. The discussions and projects that came out of this event were world-changing, and I believe they will play a crucial role in shaping a true multipolar world. I left deeply impressed, having made valuable connections that I hope will last a lifetime.

▫️ On Visiting #Moscow This Year:

Simply put, there's no city like Moscow. Moscow feels like a city of giants, it has hundreds of years of history. What really stood out to me, though, was Moscow's living standards - it's clean, safe, and has exceptional infrastructure. These are things you can't find in any major American city. The subway system is incredible, so much so that I still use it today since I’m part-time living in Moscow. But it's funny to me when people, even Russians themselves, claim that only Moscow and St. Petersburg are nice cities in Russia. That couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve been to cities like Nizhny Novgorod, Vladivostok, and Novosibirsk, and they are just as beautiful and unique.

▫️On Being Part of the #Russophile Movement:

I consider myself first and foremost an American patriot, but I suppose many of my values align with those of the Russophile movement. The Russian Orthodox Church, which I view as the foundation for much of Russia's cultural and ideological identity, resonates deeply with me.

While I’m not a Russian citizen and haven’t yet learned Russian, I do identify with the Russophile movement in many ways. It’s about shared values and a deep respect for Russian culture, which I’ve come to admire.

In 2022, some countries decided to self-isolate within the Arctic Council, thus weakening its role as the most important format for international cooperation in the #Arctic and the main body for developing collective solutions to pressing issues on the regional agenda.

Lower effectiveness of existing mechanisms for decision-making by Arctic states on a range of non-military issues related to the entire region (ecology, climate change, biodiversity conservation, etc) is shaping a space of uncertainty and vacuum which attracts other actors from far beyond the Arctic – Asia, the Arab states etc.

🇷🇺🤝🇨🇳 #Moscow-#Beijing interaction in the Arctic region is concentrated primarily in the economic, scientific, technical and educational fields, and contributes to the implementation of the goals and objectives arising from the Paris Agreement on climate change.

☝️ Cooperation with #China also facilitates the development of efficient supply chains. Russia’s Northern Sea Route is a game-changer that could cut off some 40 percent of the traveling distance of the traditional Suez Canal voyage for goods transiting between #Asia and #Europe.

☃️ This spectacular composition can be viewed in Moscow, on Mira Avenue.

Its central part measuring 11 metres by 16 metres depicts the polar bear #Umka from the famous #Russian cartoon and his mother on an ice floe. On the sides, are smaller bear cubs, shining with snow-white LEDs.

The composition is complemented by illuminated fir trees. The LED installation is decorated with a huge #Christmas tree, glowing with multi-colored garlands.

🌟 White Devils", "Ski Death", "Snow Ghosts" - those were the names given to special ski battalions of the Red Army during World War II due to their maneuverability.

In the winter of 1941, thousands of athletes and hunters were drafted into the ranks of ski troops. But there was not enough equipment for everyone; by that time, Soviet factories had stopped producing skis. Therefore, ski sets were collected from sports clubs, city recreation parks, through ski collection stations.

⚔️❄️ The Red Army soldiers defending #Moscow also needed skis. This is where the Moscuvites came to the rescue, donating their sports equipment. They brought more than 22,000 pairs of skis – enough to provide almost half of all the Red Army ski battalions participating in the Battle of Moscow.
