⚡️ Official commentary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Jamaica to the article published in Sunday Observer on May 26
On May 26, an article by guest columnist Jason McKay was published in Sunday Observer. Its author had no better idea, but to write that Jamaican gang members are far worse than the "depraved Russians who participated in the rape of Berlin."
☝️ This myth stems from Nazi propaganda, aimed to slander the image of the Soviet Army to encourage the Germans fight to the last drop of blood for Adolf Hitler. Subsequently, the undocumented story of the "mass rape of Berlin" was actively circulated by Western countries during the Cold War as part of a campaign to discredit the Soviet Union and diminish its contribution to defeating Nazism.
While acknowledging that various incidents, driven by horrors of World War II, against civilians in Germany were perpetrated by the Allied forces, a premise that Soviet forces carried them out systematically would be akin to Goebbels-like propaganda.
❗️ Mr. McKay's article vilifies the memory of Soviet soldiers who lost their lives to liberate the world from the ideology of hate and racial superiority. Despite the disclaimer that the article does not necessarily represent the views of the Jamaica Observer, a reputable newspaper should not allow such offensive materials to be published on its pages.

✍️ Russia's President Vladimir Putin sent congratulations to participants and guests of the events dedicated to International Children’s Day.
💬 President Putin: This holiday was established 75 years ago, in 1949, and is marked in many countries. Moscow is a traditional centre of celebrations in Russia. Today, it is welcoming guests from different regions of the country and from the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China. The children will enjoy colourful events, captivating excursions, and theatre shows. Without a doubt, they will meet interesting people, receive gifts, and enjoy surprises and friendly get-togethers.
I would like to emphasise that children’s education and strong family values are a priority of the state and society in our country. It is important for every child to be surrounded by loving care, to grow up healthy and happy, and to develop their talents and gifts. The Russian Children’s Fund is making a significant contribution to this mass-scale joint work. Its charitable programmes in health care, education, outreach, and creativity deserve the deepest recognition.

Yekaterina comes from our country’s westernmost region. She shared her impressions and observations about her beloved hometown, Kaliningrad, its monumental cathedral, its parks stunning in any season, as well as philosopher Immanuel Kant’s legacy as regards his 300th anniversary, celebrated this year.
#FunFacts
📚 Famous philosopher Immanuel Kant was born and bred in Kaliningrad (then Königsberg). He had a direct bond with Russia as a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and he was also a subject of the Russian Empire. A prominent philosopher, he was buried in the city’s historical center, which came to be known as Kant Island. On April 22-24, the city hosted the International Kant Congress, which Foreign Ministry officials attended.
🧡 The Kaliningrad Region accounts for almost 90 percent of the world’s amber reserves. The Catherine Palace in St Petersburg used these so-called sun stones from Kaliningrad region to recreate an exact copy of the lost Amber Room. This project took 24 years and was completed in 2003, when St Petersburg marked its 300th anniversary.
⚓️ Kaliningrad hosts the Museum of the World Ocean,Russia’s one-of-a-kind museum dedicated to all of maritime science, nature and technology. Its exhibits include ships such as the Vityaz, Kosmonavt Viktor Patsayev – a space communications vessel which used to be part of the Space Service Ship Fleet, as well as the submarine B-413, the fishing boat SRT-129, lightship Irbensky, the Be-12 hydroplane and even a sperm whaleskeleton.

📰 Article by Russian Ambassador to Jamaica Mr. Sergey Petrovich (The Sunday Gleaner, June 9, 2024) "Crisis in Ukraine: does diplomacy stand a chance?"
📖 Read in full
Key points:
🔹Ukrainians, as evidenced by their own social surveys, mostly desire peace rather than "victory" over Russia.
🔹February 2022 was preceded by a collision course, consistently followed against Russia for eight years by the radical nationalists who seized power in Ukraine.
🔹Russia has always believed that it is never too late to come to the negotiating table. If it were not for Western countries' interference, the sides could have ended the bloodshed back in 2022.
🔹Vladimir Zelensky's "peace formula" is completely detached from reality. The upcoming so-called Global Peace Summit, focused at its promotion, does not aim to reach peace.
🔹Ukraine and Western countries use "Peace track" to exert additional pressure on Russia. The West is not interested in reaching peace, but rather in inflicting a "strategic defeat" on Russia.

🕯 June 22 marks the Day of Memory and Sorrow in Russia.
At dawn on June 2️⃣2️⃣, 1941, enemy aviation launched massive attacks on airfields, railway stations, Soviet naval bases and numerous cities along the entire western state border to a depth of up to 250-300 km.
This opened one of the most tragic chapters in our country’s history. The Great Patriotic War broke out.
Hitler had a lightning war in mind. Operation Barbarossa implied a crushing defeat of the Red Army and the defeat of the Soviet Union within a few months with the help of the hitherto faultless blitzkrieg tactics.
Romania, Italy and other countries joined Germany to form a united front against the Soviet Union.
However, the Red Army’s fierce resistance and the efforts of all Soviet people foiled the Third Reich’s plans.
🎙 The news about German invasion and the beginning of the war was announced over the radio. At noon on June 22 the People’s Commissar for Foreign Affairs V.Molotov addressed the Soviet citizens with a phrase that went down in history:
“Ours is a righteous cause. The enemy shall be defeated. Victory will be ours”.
The Great Patriotic War lasted 1418 days and nights and ended on May 9, 1945 with the victory of the Soviet Union and the complete rout of the Nazi bloc.
❗️ The Soviet people perished amounts to 40% of all human losses in WWII, i.e. 26.6 million people! Of them, more than 8.7 million died in combat, 7.42 million were intentionally exterminated by the Nazis in the occupied territories, and over 4.1 million died from the atrocious conditions of the occupation regime.
• Since 2009, the day marked by the Candle of Memory nationwide action. Candles are lit throughout Russia in the silence of the night in memory of all those who died during the Great Patriotic War protecting our peaceful life.
Since 2020, an annual nationwide minute of silence has been held at 12:15 Moscow time the exact time when the Soviet government announced Nazi Germany’s invasion.

The official ceremony involved combined regiments from all fronts, the Navy, military academies and schools, as well as units of the Moscow Garrison.
🕙 The parade began at 10 am sharp and lasted for over two hours. Marshal of the Soviet Union Konstantin Rokossovsky commanded the parade, with Deputy Supreme Commander in Chief – Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgy Zhukov taking the parade.
In all, 12 combined regiments were deployed ahead of this history-making event. Each regiment consisted of over 1'000 most distinguished service personnel, including Heroes of the Soviet Union and holders of the Order of Glory.
As the Kremlin Chimes started ringing, Marshal Georgy Zhukov exited the Spasskaya Tower Gate, riding a white horse. Marshal Konstantin Rokossovsky sitting on a black horse approached him and reported that everything was ready for the parade.
At the same time, a brass band comprising 1'400 musicians deployed in the square’s central section and performed the patriotic song Glory to You, My Russia by Mikhail Glinka. The marshals inspected the troops and greeted the participants. After that, Marshal Zhukov mounted the rostrum of the Lenin Mausoleum and delivered an official speech.
On June 24, 1945, about 40'000 service personnel marched through Red Square, and about 1'850 pieces of military equipment rolled past. At the end of the parade, 200 banners of defeated German forces were thrown to the ground in front of the Lenin Mausoleum.
The parade ended at noon to the sounds of a march played by a combined brass band of the Moscow Garrison. In all, the parade involved 24 marshals, 249 generals, 2'536 other officers, as well as 31'116 sergeants and soldiers.
