#NEWS | Russia's ambassador to Iran, Aleksey Dedov, confirms that cards issued within the Iranian national payment system Shetab (their homemade analogue of Visa and MasterCard) are being accepted and integrated into the Russian card payment and online banking system now.

Expresses hope that Iran will soon start accepting the Russian Mir payment system's cards. The Mir cards have been rejected and retired by an increasingly big number of countries - including Russia's closest allies - in the last two years.

The move was reportedly in response to a similar decision by the Lebanese when barring an Iranian plane from landing at Beirut's Rafic al-Hariri airport over allegedly carrying money for the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia

Lebanese media also reported efforts by the country's authorities to evacuate their citizens from Iran after two planes belonging to the Lebanese carrier Middle East Airlines were barred from landing in Tehran.
