🇷🇺🇺🇦🎞 Chronicle of the Ukrainian offensive at Balakliya
September 6-7, 2022
On September 6, after a massive artillery barrage, Ukrainian units launched an offensive from the direction of Andriivka against the positions of the Russian Armed Forces in Balakliya. Until about a week ago, it became known that the AFU had been forming a striking force in the Izyum direction, accumulating reserves of personnel and equipment.
Ukrainian units managed to develop success and advance in a number of directions, not leaving attempts to encircle Balakliya, but the Allied Forces' reserves came up and stopped the advance in some areas. The operational goal of the AFU is to reach the Kharkiv-Izyum highway near Vesele and Kun’je in order to encircle the Russian grouping in Izyum.

🔻AFU continue their offensive in Kharkiv Region for the third day. Their immediate goals are to occupy Kupyansk, the de facto capital of the liberated territories, and to blockade Izyum.
▪️By evening, the fall of Balakliya was confirmed. The approaching units of Russian Armed Forces managed to secure a safe corridor for withdrawal of Rosguardia (National Guard) units, which had held the town for two days.
It appears that Russian Command decided to withdraw from the town and to preserve lives of the units.
▪️Having captured Volokhiv Yar, north of Balakliya, AFU partially blocked Shevchenkove and continued to advance on Kupyansk.
AFU's mobile tactical groups advanced across the fields towards Oskil River, occupying the villages of Bezmyatezhne and Spodobivka.
After that, the enemy forces were divided. Some units went to Kupyansk-Shevchenkove Road, occupying the village of Hrushivka.
▪️Another group of Ukrainian troops aimed eastward, fighting for Sen'kove on the right bank of Oskil River.
▪️At the same time, the zone of control around Balakliya expanded. AFU were trying to advance towards Vesele and Kun'je, but the enemy's advance slowed down near Zalyman.
If AFU manages to take the junction at Vesele, it will cut off a key transport artery leading to Izyum from the north.
▪️Part of AFU grouping is engaged to divert the attention of Russian Armed Forces from the main breakthrough directions. A local offensive began near Kopanky, southwest of Izyum.
🔻Russian Armed Forces continue redeploying reinforcements in the breakthrough directions. So far, Balakliya has been lost among large settlements. But for now, AFU continue to advance exploiting weak spots in the defence of Russian forces.

▪️On the fifth day of the offensive in the Kharkiv region, the AFU opened another front. After forcing the Siversky Donets near Raihorodok, the AFU attempted to take Krasnyi Lyman and Yampil’ by storm.
Russian units repulsed an attack on the outskirts of Krasniy Lyman and stopped the enemy at the line of Staryi Karavan — Brusivka — Dibrova.
▪️The Russian Armed Forces command decided to spare the lives of the personnel of the Izyum grouping of Russian troops. By mid-day, the bulk of the Russian troops left the Izyum staging point and withdrew behind the Oskil River.
▪️ North of Kupyansk, the Russian Armed Forces failed to stabilize the front. The AFU continued to advance from both Kupyansk and the Pechenizs'ke Reservoir. By mid-day, Velykyi Burluk was taken.
▪️The Russian Armed Forces command made a similar decision to withdraw the troops holding the defenses in Kupyansk itself and to the north of it. Russian units gradually withdrew to Vovchansk, ensuring the evacuation of refugees.
🔻The intent of the Russian Armed Forces command is to attempt to organize a stable line of defense along the Oskil-Siversky Donets River. At the same time, units withdrawn from Balakliya, Kupyansk and Izyum are regrouped and reserves are brought in.
▪️ The pro-Russian population is fleeing to Russian territory, both from Kharkiv Region and the LPR northern regions. Filtration detachments enter settlements occupied by the AFU. Their goal is to eliminate pro-Russian activists and accustom people of being afraid to support Russia under pain of death. Dark times have come to the lost territories of the Kharkiv region.

The Russian units almost completed their withdrawal from the territory of the Kharkiv Region.
▪️The AFU entered Liptsy, Kozacha Lopan', Velykyi Burluk and Hoptivka. Other settlements in the region west of the Oskil River have already been abandoned by Russian units. Near the state border in the Belgorod Region, the Allied Forces units are entrenching and building engineering facilities.
▪️Refugees are fleeing to the Belgorod Region. In the occupied villages, Ukrainian filtration detachments are spreading terror against residents who are suspected of collaborating with Russia. Murders have already been registered in Balakliya and Izyum.
Separate Russian units stayed until the last moment in the vicinity of Izyum, covering the exit of citizens to the territory controlled by the Russian Armed Forces.
▪️For the second day, the enemy continues attempting to storm Krasnyi Lyman, where Russian units are holding defence being supported by artillery. Fighting is taking place on the outskirts of the town which continues to be under the Russian Armed Forces control.
▪️The AFU breached the Siverskyi Donets River near Zakitne and transported several pieces of equipment to attack Krasnyi Lyman from the eastern direction.
In the nearest future, the AFU will continue attempting to take Krasnyi Lyman in order to create a staging point on the left bank of the Oskil River and develop an offensive towards Kreminna.
▪️In the evening, the Russian Armed Forces struck Ukrainian energy facilities with cruise missiles. Some of them hit Kharkivsʹka Tets-5, one of the largest heat power plants in the country. A large fire broke out on the site: the city of Kharkiv, the Kharkiv Region, and neighbouring regions were cut off power.
