🇬🇧Philosopher explains how government's attack on UOC creates internal strife 🇺🇦Філософ розповів, як влада, атакуючи УПЦ, формує внутрішній розкол
Andriy Baumeister stated that the actions of the authorities are not aimed at consolidating society.
In an interview with the opposition Russian publication 'Meduza', Ukrainian philosopher Andriy Baumeister noted that Ukraine, which respects personality and human dignity in its struggle against totalitarian Russia, would be stronger than a Ukraine that violates fundamental freedoms and human dignity.
"Who said that in war one needs to steal? Who said that in war one needs to fight against the church?" Baumeister asked rhetorically, pointing out that the number of political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in Ukraine has increased during the warfare.
Criticizing the actions of the authorities, the philosopher said that because of this, "Ukrainian society is not being formed as a united one – there is a great internal division, persecution of dissidents, attacks on business and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. All this is not aimed at consolidating society in a situation of danger."

🇬🇧Ex-MP suggests swapping "price" for UOC priests 🇺🇦Екснардеп назвав «ціну», за якою можна обмінювати священників УПЦ у РФ
Former SBU officer proposed exchanging convicted UOC priests for Ukrainian fighters with Russia.
Former SBU officer and ex-MP Ivan Stupak suggested in an interview with Channel 24 on August 28, 2024, that imprisoned Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) priests could be used as valuable bargaining chips for exchanges with Russia. Stupak proposed that 25 such convicted priests might serve as significant leverage for negotiating the release of Ukrainian fighters, including those from the Azov Battalion.
According to Stupak, previous exchange experiences have demonstrated that Russia places high value on retrieving its priests. For instance, he noted that in Luhansk Oblast, one UOC priest was exchanged for 47 Ukrainian captives.
“If the Russians see a need for these priests, we might start negotiations not on a 1-to-1 basis, but rather 1-to-3 or 1-to-5. This is war; we’re trying to sell the 'goods' that we don’t need but are valuable to the Russians at a higher price,” Stupak emphasized.
He also mentioned that among the prisoners in Ukraine, there is a "Russian cleric" who, according to "church canons, is equivalent to at least an FSB colonel."

🇬🇧Head of Malankara Church of India supports Metropolitan Theodosiy 🇺🇦Глава Маланкарської Православної Церкви Індії підтримав митрополита Феодосія
The Catholicos of the Malankara Church condemned the seizure of the UOC cathedral in Cherkasy and expressed support for the faithful.
The Primate of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, His Holiness Catholicos Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, strongly criticized the seizure of the St. Michael’s Cathedral of the Cherkasy Eparchy of the UOC, which took place on October 17. He expressed support for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and condemned the growing pressure on the canonical Church in Ukraine. This was reported by the Department for External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church.
"With a heavy heart, I write to express our deep sorrow and condemnation regarding the alarming news of the recent raider seizure of the Archangel Michael Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Cherkasy on October 17. The brutal attack, during which armed individuals in camouflage and balaclavas assaulted Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv, [as well as] priests, and parishioners, is horrifying," the Catholicos stated.
He also emphasized the unacceptability of using violence against the faithful and clergy: "The use of tear gas and physical violence against believers in a sacred place, dedicated to worship and peace, is an insult to both faith and humanity."
Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Mathews III added that the situation in Cherkasy is not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern of persecution of Orthodox Christians in Ukraine. He expressed concern over the aggression and intolerance faced by believers: "Unfortunately, we recognize that this is not an isolated incident but part of a broader and troubling pattern of persecution of Orthodox Christians in Ukraine. Such events, marked by aggression and intolerance, raise deep concern, and we stand in solidarity with all who suffer unjustly for their faith."
The Primate of the Malankara Church also assured the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of his support: "In these difficult times, we assure you of our prayerful support for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and its faithful. Our hearts and prayers are with Metropolitan Theodosiy, the clergy, and the faithful affected by this violence."
He highlighted that the Malankara Church, like the UOC, faces similar challenges, and he expressed hope for peace and justice: "We are united with you in prayer, asking for Divine intervention, protection, and the restoration of peace and justice for Orthodox believers in Ukraine."
