🗓 On February 13-15, 1945 the Royal Air Force and the US Air Force carried out barbarian bombing of Dresden.

According to many historians, the bombing of Dresden had no military significance and instead aimed to achieve a political goal. The Western Allies wanted to showcase their aerial might before the advancing Red Army.

The first air raid was launched on the evening of February 13 with 244 heavy British bombers dropping 507 tonnes of high-explosive bombs and 374 tonnes of incendiaries. The second 30-minute air raid came in the early hours of February 14 and was twice as powerful: 529 bombers dropped 965 tonnes of high-explosive bombs and over 800 tonnes of incendiaries. On the morning of February 14, 311 USAF planes dropped over 780 tonnes of bombs. On February 15, 210 US aircraft dropped 462 tonnes of bombs on the city.

Up to 1,400 bombers and 1,000 fighters took part in the raids, dropping ~3,900 tonnes of bombs on the city. As a result of the bombing, the city was turned into ruins: ~35,470 buildings were destroyed, architectural monuments were damaged, up to 135,000 people were killed.

❗️This proved the most devastating European airstrike in all of World War II. The area of Dresden, completely destroyed by the raid, exceeded that of Nagasaki four times over, after the August 9, 1945 US atomic bomb strike. Over 75-80 percent of Dresden’s buildings were destroyed.

💬 Maria Zakharova: While analysing this historical fact, one finds it hard to show any emotions linked with the need for vengeance. The USSR had every reason to exact vengeance on Nazi German forces, however, the Soviet struggle against Nazism did not call for destroying cities together with their population. This is the “privilege” of the Anglo-Saxon world, in the worst sense of the word (from briefing of February 10, 2023).

In January 2024 NATO has decided that the time has come to erase the memory of the victims of that crime. That it was Germans themselves who did it (from post of January 16, 2024).

💥Yesterday, the center of 🇷🇺Belgorod was again under fire by 🇺🇦Ukrainian neo-Nazi formations.
The shelling damaged residential buildings, a shopping mall.

❗️Civilians suffer again: Five killed, including an infant. This is yet another crime and violation of IHL.

Accountability is inevitable

ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES OF THE UKRAINIAN CRISIS

👉 Key points:

🔹February 21, 2024, will mark the 10th anniversary of the violent and bloody coup d’état in Ukraine, which had catastrophic consequences for its statehood as well as for regional and global stability.

🔹 The European Union in November 2013 de-facto gave the Ukrainian authorities the ultimatum—to choose between Europe or Russia as a strategic partner. After the legitimate Ukrainian government postponed the signing of the association agreement with the EU, it was brutally overthrown with the direct financial and organizational involvement of the Western countries.

🔹After seizing the power, the Kiev regime launched the anti-Russian program based on nationalistic, neo-Nazi ideology and with the full support from the “collective West” unleashed a fratricidal civil war on the Eastern region of Donbass, which refused to recognize the legitimacy of the coup and proclaimed the creation of Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

🔹 By early 2022, the situation in Donbass became intolerable. After repeated refusals of US, EU and Ukraine to solve the conflict peacefully, Russia had no choice but to formally acknowledge the independence of the two Republics on February 21, 2022, and to launch a special military operation on February 24, 2022 to protect their population, to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine.

🔹 The Western countries, ignoring the genesis of the conflict they themselves created, rushed to impose thousands of unilateral sanctions against the Russian Federation in a futile attempt to undermine its economy and sociopolitical stability.

🔹But their plans for the “economic blitzkrieg” and isolation of our country failed.

🔹 As President Putin mentioned in his recent interview with Tucker Carlson, Russia had never closed the door for negotiations.
🇷🇺Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks and answers to questions at a conference on the 10th anniversary of the coup in 🇺🇦Ukraine

📌Moscow, February 16, 2024

👆Key points:

The coup in Kiev were yet another result of the divide-and-rule policy that is aimed at setting countries at loggerheads and provoking interstate conflicts.

The collective West led by the 🇺🇸US, or to be more precise the Anglo-Saxons, has long pursued the divide-and-rule policy. 🇬🇧Britain is playing a more aggressive and devious role in the current events with its provocative assertiveness than that of any other participant, including the 🇺🇸US.

When the 🇺🇸Americans and their satellites declared victory in the Cold War, they adopted a policy of expanding NATO. They ignored their own promises not to expand the alliance and not to deploy substantial armed forces on the territory of the new members. They made these promises verbally and in writing to Soviet and later Russian leaders.

The West has regarded 🇺🇦Ukraine an anti-Russia bulwark since the moment it gained independence.

🎙 🇷🇺Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks at the presentation of the collection of documents titled Crimea in Russia’s Development: History, Politics, Diplomacy. Documents from the Foreign Ministry Archives

📌Moscow, February 15, 2024

💬 This publication has been released for the tenth Anniversary of Crimea’s reunification with Russia, which we will celebrate next month.

<...>

In his famous Crimean Speech of March 18, 2014, President Vladimir Putin said: “We could not leave this plea unheeded; we could not abandon Crimea and its residents in distress. This would have been betrayal on our part.”

The way the dramatic events have been unfolding in Ukraine demonstrates that reunification with Russia was the only right and possible option for the people of Crimea. Taking this step was consistent with the historical logic of events and the fundamental interests of the people living on this Russian peninsula.

This is the message conveyed by the collection we are presenting today. In particular, it offers unique and convincing documentary evidence demonstrating the unbreakable bond linking Crimea’s destiny to Russia.

📜 The documents in this book include treaties, declarations, diplomatic messages, letters and telegrams. <...> This covers a historical era of over 200 years, marked by momentous accomplishments, including:

• the steady expansion of Russian influence over the peninsula,
• Crimea’s accession to the Russian Empire,
• the construction of new cities there,
• the emergence of the Black Sea fleet,
• the heroic defence of Sevastopol,
• the establishment of the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic as part of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic.

🇷🇺 Today, Russia is making great efforts to revive the love for Russian history and preserve the truth about its great past. This collection contains original documents from the Foreign Ministry Archives and seeks to make a constructive and useful contribution to these important efforts.

🇷🇺Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's remarks at the “For the Freedom of Nations” Forum of Supporters of the Struggle Against Modern Practices of Neocolonialism

📌Moscow, February 16, 2024

👆Key points:

Over the last three decades there has been a model of globalisation "engineered" by the 🇺🇸United States and its closest allies, which has proved to be untenable. Western countries have led humanity not to prosperity, but to one of the most acute international crises since the Second World War. The conflict space in the world is expanding, and a deep split between the West and the countries of the Global Majority is emerging.

After the Soviet Union departed the world stage, the West began to impose its "rule-based order," in fact, its undivided dominance in economics, finance, politics and culture. The "Golden Billion" enthusiastically embarked on neo-colonial development of the post-Soviet space, along with the countries of the Global South and East.

Abusing the trust of the world majority, the aggressive minority led by the 🇺🇸United States improved colonial practices and did not hesitate to use force – as it happened in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya, Syria, and other countries of Asia and Africa.

The 🇺🇸United States used such tools in the economic sphere as limiting opportunities for independent development, forcing countries to conclude unfair contracts, and siphoning off resources at low prices set on Western stock exchanges. The former colonial powers continuously apply illegal sanctions pressure on countries that refuse to submit to dictates and surrender their sovereignty and national identity.

The 🇺🇸US embargo against the heroic 🇨🇺Cuban people, sanctions against 🇻🇪Venezuela, 🇮🇷Iran, 🇳🇮Nicaragua and many other countries, including the 🇰🇵DPRK, have long been the main foreign policy tools of the “collective West”. The current generation of politicians in North America and Europe has apparently lost such diplomatic skills as the ability to negotiate.
