🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s news conference following the High-Level Week of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly, New York, September 24, 2022

🔗 READ IN FULL: https://is.gd/H8HKfp

💬 Sergey #Lavrov: There will be no opening remarks. I have just made a statement at the UN General Assembly, in which I set forth our position.

☝️ I would like to comment without any delay on some statements that were made in Washington, London, Brussels, and other Western capitals regarding the referendums that are being held these days in the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics and in the liberated areas of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine.

The hysterics we are witnessing are highly indicative. A direct expression of will by the people has long ceased to be a way of establishing control over this or that territory the West can accept or support. I would like to remind you about Vladimir Zelensky’s interview in August 2021, during which he stated that these were not people who were living in eastern Ukraine, but rather “creatures”, and that those of its residents who regarded themselves as Russians, wanted to speak Russian and wanted their children and grandchildren to have a future, should ship out to Russia.

❗️ It was Vladimir Zelensky who started the process that made life of ethnic Russians in Ukraine intolerable and has ultimately led to referendums on the accession of these territories to the Russian Federation. As President Vladimir Putin said, we will certainly respect the results of these democratic processes.

When the referendums are completed, will Moscow consider the areas that are controlled by Ukraine as occupied territories?

💬 Sergey #Lavrov: The referendums are being held by decision of local governments. The terms of these referendums have been made public.

☝️ Based on their outcome, Russia will respect the will expressed by the people who have suffered for years from the neo-Nazi regime’s atrocities.

Would you clarify your government’s position on the use of nuclear weapons, since President Putin’s comments on the use of “everything at our disposal” has led to a lot of interpretation. And would that defence be applicable to the new territories that may be incorporated into Russia after the referendums?

💬 Sergey Lavrov: As you know, it has become fashionable to use methods that have come to be known as cancel culture. Our Western colleagues are actively using them not only against any country, politicians, or public figures, but also against historical facts and events. For example, in 2014 our Western colleagues told us that they would never accept the “annexation” of Crimea and asked us why we did that. We replied, “Let’s recall how it all began.” With a government coup and very many people killed. The putschists showed complete disregard for the guarantees provided by Germany, France, and Poland, seized government buildings, and hounded the President. They physically chased after him trying to catch him. The first statements made by the putschists were: cancel the regional status of the Russian language and get Russians in Crimea packing. Armed groups of people were headed to the peninsula to storm its Supreme Council. Only after that did the people in Crimea respond by holding a referendum, while the eastern regions of Ukraine reacted by refusing to recognise the results of the government coup. But our Western colleagues’ analysis begins with those events in Crimea. There was no other option for us by that time but to support the sincere expression of the will of the Crimeans, 95 percent of whom voted unequivocally for returning to Russia where they had lived for centuries.

☝️ We also see this cancel culture in the current narrative regarding nuclear weapons. Nobody remembers any more that in February 2022, before the start of the special military operation, Vladimir Zelensky said in one of his statements (he made and continues to make many statements) that Ukraine’s renunciation of nuclear weapons following the split of the Soviet Union was a big mistake.
🇷🇺Foreign Minister Sergey #Lavrov's remarks and answers to media questions following the G20 Summit:

💬If anyone is refusing to negotiate, it is #Ukraine. The longer 🇺🇦Kiev regime continues to refuse, the harder it will be to reach an agreement.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey #Lavrov’s interview with Rossiya 24 and RIA Novosti (Moscow, February 2, 2023)

💬 I believe that the #exceptionalism and the absolute conviction in their own infallibility and superiority is the main reason why we are now opposing the countries that are using the Kiev regime to wage a hybrid war against us, although not exactly a #hybridwar.

🔸 The United States and all other #Westerners, whom the Americans have brought to the heel thus stripping the EU of the remaining attributes of independence, are widely known as “grand democrats.” However, discussions about democratic approaches to international issues leave them impassive.

❗️ The US have discarded all their principles at the snap of a finger, principles like the inviolability of private property, presumption of innocence, good-faith competition, market mechanisms, etc., which they were cultivating and imposing on others for decades as part of the globalisation package.

🔸 The current talk about transitioning to national currencies is not accidental. Who knows what side of the bed the US president will wake up on tomorrow, or who he will see as “unsympathetic.”

🔸 There are many who want to scare us with China. In my opinion, this is a game based on wanting to prevent us from cooperating and coordinating our positions in the economy or international affairs. There is no doubt that the plans signed by Russia and the PRC meet the interests of both Moscow and Beijing.

☝️ What matters at this point is not the time but the essence, the quality of results we will ensure for our people and those who want to remain part of Russian culture – the Kiev junta, with the West’s encouragement, was depriving them of all things Russian for many years.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey #Lavrov’s remarks at a plenary meeting of the #G20 Ministerial Council on multilateralism, global economy and development (New Delhi, March 2, 2023):

💬 We stand in solidarity with New Delhi’s call to build a common future for humanity, which is especially important in the context of growing geopolitical confrontation. We share the practical objectives of strengthening multilateralism and overcoming global economic crises set during India’s Presidency.

❗️ I would like to apologise to the Presidency and our colleagues from the Global South for the improper behaviour of a number of Western delegations, which turned the discussion on the G20 agenda into a travesty in an attempt to shift their responsibility for failures in economic policy to others, primarily Russia. It’s kind of funny that the representatives of the countries whose leaders admitted that they have been sabotaging the UN Security Council resolution and flooding #Ukraine with weapons for war against Russia since 2015 were trying so hard.

The aggressive #Russophobia appears particularly outrageous given that the G20 Western members have never grieved at the G20 meetings over the many hundreds of thousands of lives lost in Washington’s reckless adventures in the Middle East under the pretext of national security threats that came from places 10,000 miles away from the US borders.

☝️We see no alternative to the sole legitimate international order that is embodied in the #UNCharter’s basic principles.

⛔️ It’s time to stop playing the food card. Today, the bulk of grain supplies from Ukraine are being shipped at giveaway fodder prices to the EU, rather than to the poorest countries that need them. Without any scruples, the #West is burying the UN Secretary-General’s well-known humanitarian initiative.

🤝 We will continue to make a major contribution to ensuring economic stability. We are open to an equitable dialogue at the G20. We hope that the Delhi summit in September will at least mitigate the risks created by the self-serving Western policies.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey #Lavrov on the results of his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio #Guterres. (New York, April 25, 2023)

Excerpts:

💬 Antonio Guterres focused on the prospects for the further implementation of the #BlackSeaInitiative in the context of his own proposal, which was introduced and approved on July 22, 2022. <...>

The Secretary-General described his efforts at promoting the Russian part of the deal as much as possible. ☝️So far, the progress has not been obvious. He expressed his considerations in a letter explaining the ideas on the further course of actions. This letter requires a thorough review.

❗️Thus far, we do not see the Western countries’ desire to carry out what is necessary for the successful implementation of the Secretary-General’s initiative on the package approach to exporting agriculture products from #Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

We will study his latest ideas now that we have them in black and white.

Talking points:

#Ukraine

Before May 9, Vladimir Zelensky cancelled Victory Day, which the majority of Ukrainian citizens hold sacred, and declared Europe Day instead. <...> By taking this decision, Vladimir Zelensky has cast a shadow over the feat accomplished by millions of Ukrainians and betrayed the memory of those who stood up to defend this land from a fascist Europe.

History develops in cycles. Eighty years after the rout of Nazism, we are again fighting this horror reborn in the West and Ukraine. This time, the enemy has tried to set against us a certain part of the population in the originally Russian areas by inculcating in them the idea of ethnic superiority. The memory of our fallen ancestors cannot allow us to let the neo-Nazis in Ukraine gain the upper hand. The declared goals are important as never before. As the Russian leadership said, they would be implemented.

#Pakistan

We are closely monitoring the situation in Pakistan following the May 9 arrest of Imran Khan, former prime minister and chairman of Pakistan’s largest opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Pakistan Movement for Justice), on corruption charges. We are seriously concerned about media reports of violent attacks by protesters on police and miliary facilities in the country.

We call on the sides to settle their differences peacefully. We hope that the large-scale protests will be held without major clashes and that the situation will normalise soon.

Talking points:

#Ukraine

The West has made its role in the conflict abundantly clear: Ukraine serves merely as a tool and Ukrainians as pawns it is ready to sacrifice in its standoff with Russia. The West has sacrificed literally everything on the altar of its morbid geopolitical ambitions. They are “exceptional”. Only they can govern everyone. Nobody has the right to take independent decisions, be it domestic affairs or foreign policy. The previous times of colonialism and imperialism have not receded into the past but rather are being converted to a modern format.

#UNESCO

In its commitment to confrontation, the collective West continues intentionally undermining mechanisms underpinning interstate relations and ignoring the diplomatic norms by using all kinds of dirty tricks. Paris followed in the footsteps of Washington by adopting bad visa practices. As a country hosting the UNESCO Headquarters, France failed to issue visas on time to several Russian representatives, preventing them from attending the 216th Session of the UNESCO Executive Board. Visa-related incidents of this kind with their obvious political bias are becoming a regular occurrence. By doing this, Paris has intentionally failed to honour its obligations as a host country.
