Zelensky’s denial that it is Ukraine shelling #ZaporozhyeNPP sound even more ludicrous after his recent accusations against Russia when a 🇺🇦missile hit #Przewodów🇵🇱. #ZNPP #StopNaziUkraine.

⚡️ Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on speculations about nuclear risks allegedly generated by Russia

💬 We regard the Kiev regime and its overseas patrons’ statements about Russia allegedly posing threats to the Zaporozhye NPP (#ZNPP), as a vile provocation.

This is yet another attempt to discredit Russia, ascribe to it non-existent intentions, and simultaneously cover up their criminal – and actually terrorist – plans to create a nuclear accident that will endanger the life and health of people in the region and all over Europe.

We once again warn the Kiev regime and its Western supporters against engineering potentially grave accidents at ZNPP and call on the IAEA and its leadership to take advantage of their experts’ presence at the plant and record all cases of Ukrainian attacks.

We note that this latest provocation by the Kiev regime squares in time and meaning with the draft resolution submitted by US senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal urging that an instance of radioactive contamination in Ukraine be regarded as a pretext for activating Art. 5 of the Washington Treaty complete with the launching of NATO’s relevant political and military response mechanisms.

It is clear that these irresponsible statements by the Washington hawks are meant for audiences that are ignorant of facts and realities. President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that there is no need for Russia to use nuclear weapons in the context of the Ukraine crisis.

👉 The United States deliberately continues to “up the ante” and generate strategic risks, involving its NATO allies in this dangerous game. This reckless policy will lead to extremely sad consequences, including for Washington itself.

In 2024, we celebrate 40 years since the launch of the first power unit at Zaporozhskaya NPP (#ZNPP).

To commemorate this milestone, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Rosatom State Corporation have released a brochure titled “Home to Russia: 40th Anniversary of the Launch of the First Unit of Zaporozhskaya NPP.”

👉 This brochure highlights significant moments in ZNPP's history, from the USSR Council of Ministers’ decision to build the plant in 1977 to its integration back into the Russian nuclear “family.”

Excerpts from the brochure:

🔹 The history of Zaporozhskaya NPP began in 1977 with the USSR's decision to construct it. Unit 1 was launched in 1984, followed by three additional units by 1987, and two more were approved in 1988.

🔹 After a referendum in September 2022, ZNPP came under Russian jurisdiction. The Russian Federation now oversees the plant and its technologies, ensuring safe and reliable operations. A special regulatory regime is in place until January 2028 to enhance nuclear safety and security.

🔹 In 2023, all scheduled maintenance was completed, and repairs were made to equipment damaged by Ukrainian shelling. A feed pumping station for the cooling pond is planned but faces risks from potential attacks.

🔹 Emergency response exercises are conducted regularly, and radiation monitoring is ongoing, with data transmitted to the IAEA. As of July 2024, ZNPP employs 5,001 staff, maintaining operational standards.

❗️Russia continues to adhere to international nuclear safety conventions, facing security threats primarily from Ukraine. The presence of IAEA experts since September 2022 aims to mitigate these risks.

☝️ The return of ZNPP to the Russian nuclear community enhances nuclear safety and security, reinforcing its status as the largest NPP in Europe.
