#OTD in 1900, Marshal of the Soviet Union, two times Hero of the Soviet Union, Vasily #Chuikov was born - commander of main Red Army forces (62nd Army) during the Battle of #Stalingrad.
The Front Command considered boldness, resolve, courage, sharp sense of responsibility & devotion to duty to be among Chuikov's merits. Army under his command covered itself with glory for heroic six-months-long defence of Stalingrad in fierce urban battles in the environment of the ruined city. 62nd Army inflicted heavy losses on Nazi forces. In September 1942 alone, 62nd Army destroyed up to 20000 Nazi soldiers and officers.
