South African theater companies took part in the International Theater Festival “Baltic House”
🎭 On 4-14 October the XXXIV International Theater Festival “Baltic House” was held in St Petersburg. More than 300 theaters from 32 countries have taken part in the Festival during its existence, each year revealing to the public new names of the world theatrical culture. China and South Africa were the focus of this year's programme.
🔸Two theater groups from South Africa introduced their performances to the Russian audience. The Abrahamse and Meyer Productions (Cape Town) staged “Hamlet” in the best traditions of Shakespearean theater. According to Fred Abrahamse, the play acquires a new meaning depending on the stage space and each time the audience sees a new performance, unique and exclusive.
🔸 African Tree Productions (Johannesburg) introduced two plays directed by Seiphemo Motswiri: “The System” and “Be a Better Dog”. The productions give an extensive insight into African life and culture. While the focus of “System” is on the social problems of homelessness, crime, cruelty and compassion, the mono-performance “Be a Better Dog” tells the story of a simple dog, which passes from one owner to another and asks itself quite human questions - about whether it has the power to change the course of events?
🇷🇺🇿🇦The plays were a great success. We express our hope for further engagement in the performing art.

⚡️🚀 The Soyuz-2.1b rocket carrying the Resurs-P satellite blasted off from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, marking the 2,000th launch for the R-7 family of rockets (the first launch of an R-7 rocket took place on May 15, 1957).
Resurs-P satellites are designed for high-resolution, wide-angle and multi-spectral observations of the Earth's surface. The data obtained by those are used to explore natural resources, control pollution and environmental degradation, and monitor water protection and protected areas.
🛰 R-7 is a family of #Soviet and #Russian launch vehicles. These rockets were involved in all manned and a significant part of unmanned launches in the history of Russian cosmonautics. At the moment, the Soyuz-2.1a, Soyuz-2.1b, and Soyuz-2.1c modifications are in use.

🇷🇺♟ 9-year-old #Russian chess player Roman Shogdzhiev becomes the youngest ever to score the international master norm
At the age of just 9 years old, Roman Shogdzhiev has broken the record to become the youngest player in history to score an international master (IM) norm. He is also one of just three players to cross the 2300 barrier before the age of 10.
The exceptional feat occurred during the RadnickiChess IM tournament in Belgrade, Serbia, in Dec 2024. In a field with two grandmasters and two international masters, Shogdzhiev scored 7/9, losing to only tournament winner GM Suat Atalik in round eight.
It's an impressive result by the Russian youngster, who scored his first IM norm at 9 years, 10 months and 7 days, almost a month younger than IM Faustino Oro (Argentina), the previous record holder.
👏 Sincere congratulations to Roman!

🎙 From the interview of Director of the Department for Partmnership with Africa of the Russian Foreign Ministry Tatiana Dovgalenko with RIA Novosti (20 Feb 2025):
🇷🇺🌍 #Russian-#African cooperation in education and culture enjoys a long-standing history and good traditions. They occupy an important place in the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum Action Plan 2023-2026, adopted as a result of the Second Russia-Africa Summit. As part of the implementation of the tasks set out in the document, we pay primary attention to the issues of training highly qualified personnel among Africans, which are to ensure, among other things, the economic and technological sovereignty of their countries.
🎓 More than 34,000 African students study in the Russian Federation, of which about 7,000 are funded by the Russian federal budget. Since 2022, the quota for Africa has more than doubled: today about 4,800 scholarships are allocated.
☝️ To expand the coverage of our educational programs, innovative educational formats have been launched: the Russian-African Network University, the Russian-African Consortium of Technical Universities "Nedra Africa", the Russian-African Network Transport University. A significant contribution to the promotion of our education on the African continent is made by the initiatives <…> to establish centers for open education in African countries, the number of which has already reached 27, and to train teachers in specialties in demand with partners.

🎙 From the interview of Director of the Department for Partnership with Africa of the Russian Foreign Ministry Tatiana Dovgalenko with RIA Novosti (20 Feb 2025):
An important project in the field of cultural cooperation is the opening of the Museum of African Culture as a subsidiary of Russia’s State Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow. We expect that it will become a key platform for popularizing African cultures in Russia.
🇷🇺🇿🇦🇪🇹 The largest events on the cultural track last year were the first-ever Days of Russian Spiritual Culture in Ethiopia and South Africa. As part of the ‘Rising Stars’ project, with the support of the Russian Foreign Ministry and the ‘Russkiy Mir’ Foundation, concerts and master classes by leading Russian teachers and performers from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory were held in Benin, Egypt, Mali and Morocco.
🇷🇺🌍 The annual St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum provides good opportunities for #Russian-#African contacts in the cultural field and discussion of promising projects.
In 2024, representatives from 11 African countries took part in it: Burundi, Guinea, Djibouti, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Cameroon, Seychelles, Sudan, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, South Africa.
We count on the active participation of our African friends in the upcoming forum in the fall.
