#OTD in 1941, 80 years ago, the very first Arctic convoy (known as Operation Dervish) with strategic supplies from the Western Allies has successfully reached the Soviet port of Arkhangelsk. From August 1941 to May 1945, 78 Arctic convoys were organized. They became a true symbol of unity between the Allies & their resolve to free the world from Nazism.
The memory of the heroes who took part in Arctic convoys is cherished in Russia. For example, one of the Russian Navy's rescue tug (Project 02980) is named in honour of Operation Dervish
