Russian Embassy has hosted yet another Russian Movie Night event

The Battle of the Dnieper screened in the movie took place in August – December of 1943. This major campaign of WW2 consisted of several strategic operations and involved over 4 million participants from both sides, As a result of the 4-months battle, almost entire left-bank Ukraine was recovered from Nazi invaders.

🎬 The New ‘Russian Movie Night’ Season in South Africa Kicked Off

The Embassy of Russia in South Africa opened the new ‘Russian Movie Night’ season with Oleg Trofim’s sport drama ‘Ice’.

💬 Dear guests, perhaps those of you who love or at least understand ice skating are aware that the first thing one should learn on the ice is how to fall correctly, - Ambassador Ilya Rogachev noted in his introductory remarks. - Not surprisingly, tonight's film is all about both physical and spiritual capacity to put your will together and rise after a fall.

The Ambassador told that the filming of “Ice” took place in one of Russia's most beautiful regions – the southern part of Eastern Siberia, Lake Baikal. A number of scenes were also filmed at the Olympic venues in the city of Sochi, which hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics.

☝️ Ilya Rogachev reminded about the role Russia played in development and perfection of the figure skating. Many Russian athletes, champions of Europe, the World and the Olympic Games, not only forged the glory of the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation, but also became a true global treasure.

🤝 The Embassy of Russia extends its gratitude to ‘Art Pictures Studio’ and personally Fyodor Bondarchuk, company ‘Vodorod,’ as well as to ‘Art Pictures Distribution’ and ‘National Media Group’ for the opportunity to hold a non-commercial screening of the movie.

🎞 The Russian Embassy in Pretoria hosts a “Russian Movie Night” ahead of the 10-year anniversary of unconstitutional coup in Ukraine

Two movies were screened during the event: the documentary by RT “Maidan: a Road to War” and the feature film “The Best in Hell”.

💬 This February marks 10 years since the unconstitutional blood-shedding coup took place in Kiev, as the “final chord” of the so-called Euromaidan. It also marks two years since the beginning of the Special Military Operation, which meant to protect the population of Donbass, who did not accept the coup, - Ambassador Ilya Rogachev noted in his introductory remarks. - You may have read and watched a lot about it in local media or on TV. However, our point of view is different from the one pushed by most of the Western media.

☝️ Ilya Rogachev explained how the events unfolded in Ukraine leading to the beginning of the Special Military Operation, told about Euromaidan provocations and the subsequent split in the Ukrainian society, as well as about the tragic events in Odessa and Mariupol.

📽 Presenting the film “The Best in Hell”, the head of the Russian diplomatic mission pointed out that the film depicted with utmost realism, a battle for a multi-storeyed residential building.

❗️Ilya Rogachev once again emphasized that the Ukrainian Armed Forces systematically built their fortified structures precisely in residential areas, using civilian infrastructure for military purposes and hiding behind the civilian population as a “human shield.”

☝️ The Ambassador reminded that this was a gross violation of International Humanitarian Law and would serve as evidence of crimes committed by the Kiev regime in future.

🤝 The guests of the function were also addressed by South African public activist Wessel Oosthuizen, who spoke about his recent visit to Donbass and shared his impressions of how much the true situation differs from the picture painted by the local media.

📽 On October 15, the Russian Embassy hosted the screening of the feature film “Nuremberg”, the action of which unfolds against the backdrop of the International Military Tribunal over major war criminals of Nazi Germany.

In 1946, the Tribunal fixed the victory over Nazis in World War II and recognized their main structures and practices as criminal. The provisions reflected in its verdict remain legally valid until today.

❗️ Yet, almost 80 years into the defeat of Nazi Germany, attempts to rewrite the history of World War II by certain countries, revise its results, whitewash and even glorify Nazi criminals and their accomplices are becoming more frequent.

⚖️ The movie reminded the guests of the function that the implementation of international justice must be the result of collective efforts and enjoy authority among the world community; attempts by individual states or blocs to assume the role of “international judge” cannot have legal consequences.
