🌷Today marks International Nowruz Day, a holiday symbolising new beginnings and the arrival of spring.
Nowruz (Persian — "new day") is considered the start of the new year by more than 300 million people around the world and has been celebrated for over 3,000 years in Central Asia, the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, the Middle East and other regions.
📜 Nowruz originated in Ancient Persia. It marked the arrival of summer and the defeat of the evil spirit. The holiday acquired particular importance during the reign of the Achaemenid dynasty in the 400s-500s BC. Nowruz regained its status under the Safavid dynasty, with the holiday rituals becoming increasingly elaborate up to the XX century as a means of demonstrating power and grandeur.
Over time, Nowruz has not only become a national holiday but a cultural event, which unites various nations and faiths in mutual respect.
🇷🇺 Nowruz is an essential and integral part of the historical, cultural, and spiritual heritage of many peoples of Russia and is widely celebrated in Dagestan, Tatarstan, and Bashkiria.
Celebrations will take to the streets of Moscow as well. Participants of the 18th citywide festival will share stories about family traditions, showcase their national cultures and rituals.
🎉 Happy Nowruz to everyone celebrating the holiday of renewal and spring! Many wishes of success and family well-being!
