Andrei Stenin Press Photo Contest international roadshow has kicked off with an exhibition in Pretoria.
📸Guests of the function organized by the Embassy of Russia in South Africa with the support of 'Rossiya Segodnya' news agency could familiarize themselves with the best out of around 3,000 entries submitted from 54 countries across the globe.
Russia’s Ambassador to South Africa H.E. Mr. Ilya Rogachev reminded that South African photographers won the Stenin Contest for 4 years in a row – from 2017 to 2020. ‘I hope that next year, on the contest’s 10th anniversary, we’ll see more of them among participants and laureates,’ he said at the opening of the function.
🎞 Andrei Stenin, whose name the competition bears, was killed in 2014 in a shelling while on a media assignment in Ukraine. Submission of works for the contest opens annually on 22 Dec, Andrei Stenin’s birthday.

🎬 Participants of the event were introduced to the iconic Soviet war drama ‘Only ‘Old Men’ Are Going Into Battle.’
🗣 Ambassador of Russia to South Africa H.E. Mr. Ilya Rogachev opened the event with a brief review of history of the Battle and the movie’s artistic features.
‘Essentially, the film is based on true events of the Great Patriotic War, which took place in different aviation units of the Soviet Air Force. The director used the method of artistic synthesis, bringing those events together in one movie,’ Ilya Rogachev said.
The Battle of the Dnieper screened in the movie took place in August – December of 1943. This major campaign of WW2 consisted of several strategic operations and involved over 4 million participants from both sides, As a result of the 4-months battle, almost entire left-bank Ukraine was recovered from Nazi invaders.
