📅 On September 10, the two-day #G20 Summit came to a close in New Delhi, India. Under instructions from President of Russia Vladimir Putin, the Russian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Members of the G20 reached consensus on a final declaration for the summit. It reflects agreements on a wide range of current issues and actions, including food, climate, energy, the necessity of reforming international financial institutions, digital transformation, and macroeconomic policy. The specific goals, set in the interests of the countries in the Global South, were an important achievement.
<...>
❗️ The decision to include the African Union among the permanent members of the G20 was historical.
The Russian delegation, along with the #BRICS countries and other friendly partners, consistently advocated de-politicising discussions and maintaining the G20’s focus on countering today’s socioeconomic challenges, primarily on overcoming poverty, inequality, and the weakening of food and energy security under the influence of Western policies and the illegitimate unilateral sanctions. Together we suppressed the West’s attempts to “Ukrainise” the work of the G20 format, and noted numerous armed conflicts on the planet as well as calls for peaceful resolutions through dialogue and diplomatic efforts based on the full goals and principles of the UN Charter.
<...>
🤝 We will continue close cooperation with the Indian presidency of the G20 in the context of implementing New Delhi’s announced intention to hold an additional meeting of the G20 leaders via videoconference this November. We also count on productive coordination with Brazil and South Africa, who will assume the G20 presidency in 2024 and 2025, respectively; we are ready to implement relevant special initiatives with them, including those based on domestic experience and potential achievements.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks at a gala meeting devoted to Diplomatic Worker’s Day (Moscow, February 9, 2024)
Key talking points:
🔵 This is not the first time that our country is at the peak of geopolitical processes. This is why Russia’s place in the emerging multipolar world and the future of the world itself largely depends on us, on our dedication and a correct understanding of the priorities.
🔵 The US-led collective West is not letting up in its attempts to impose an unfair unipolar global arrangement on the world.
🔵 Acting together with the countries of the global majority, our associates in the international arena, we will continue working for the unconditional guarantees for our lawful interests in regional security based on the principle of an indivisible Russia.
🔵 The hybrid war unleashed by the West against those who object to its global striving to maintain its domination is creating not only obstacles but also impetuses for strengthening versatile ties.
🔵 We intend to continue consolidating our strategic partnerships with the PRC, India, Brazil, South Africa, Algeria, Egypt, Syria, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and a vast number of other countries that share our conceptual approaches to the world situation and the prospects for the development of our common planet.
🔵 We attach primary importance to reaching the goals of Russia’s current presidency in the #CIS and the expanded #BRICS.
🔵 We focus in particular on advancing BRICS’ relations with regional and sub-regional association from the Global South
🔵 We will continue to work within the #G20, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum, the East Asia Summit mechanisms, and other multilateral associations that include the participation of Western representatives.
🔵 We will do our best to help further strengthen the #SCO in the interests of effectively addressing pressing international issues and promoting our concept for strengthening Eurasian security across the board.

🌐 On February 21-22, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov took part in the G20 Ministerial meeting in Rio de Janeiro, the first such meeting held as part of Brazil’s chairmanship in this key forum of global economic governance.
👉 Read in full
Speaking on the G20’s role in overcoming current international tensions, Sergey Lavrov presented Russia’s detailed assessments of the geopolitical situation noting the West’s deliberate policy to maintain its dominance by containing new centres of power, eroding the coordinating function of the UN and the primacy of the universal provisions of international law, and substituting them with restricted-participation alliances and an obscure rules-based order. <...>
✅ The principled Russian policy to preserve the #G20 as a key global economic forum that is free from politicisation and is not authorised to interfere in matters of international peace and security to the detriment of the prerogatives of the UN Security Council was reaffirmed.
❗️In this context, the unacceptability of attempts to lead the discussion away from the real challenges that plague the global economy through the Ukrainisation of the G20 agenda was emphasised <...>.
In light of shifts in the balance of power and the rise of new global growth centres, the participants paid special attention to the importance of democratising the global governance system by expanding the rights of the Global South in proportion to its actual weight in the international arena. <...>
The minister noted the importance of considering the objective trend towards the greater global economic role of associations such as #BRICS, the #SCO, #ASEAN, the #EAEU, the African Union, the Arab League, and #CELAC in G20 activities.. <...>
🤝 Sergey Lavrov held a number of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Türkiye, South Africa, Egypt, Bolivia, Brazil, Mexico and Paraguay on the sidelines of the G20 Ministerial Meeting.

🎙 FM Sergey Lavrov’s statement and answers to questions following the G20 Ministerial Meeting
📍 Rio de Janeiro, February 22, 2024
• Some of our Western colleagues’ attempts during the #G20 Ministerial Meetings to divert the discussion from this key issue to the topic of supporting the Kiev regime, focusing on groundless accusations against Russia and Ukrainising the agenda are not supported by developing countries and most of the Global South countries.
🌐 Our remarks also focused on the fact that, apart from the Bretton Woods institutions, the IMF, the World Bank, and the WTO, there are also new centres and unions of the Global Majority developing in different regions of the world. In the Eurasian space, these are the #SCO, #ASEAN, and #EAEU.
🇺🇳 Today, six members of the UNSC out of 15 are allies of the US, with nearly all of them doing Washington’s bidding. When we address the problem of expanding the UNSC in practical terms, we will support solely representatives of Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
• US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said they should not by any means divide the world into isolated blocs which seems like a sound idea, but immediately, without missing a beat, he went on to say that they will, of course, cooperate primarily with democracies. To use his words, there are different “blocs.” The best part, though, is him saying that all countries have a choice, “If you are not at the table in the international system, you’re going to be on the menu.” That’s the kind of approach the top US diplomat has towards those who disagree with them.
• Many of our colleagues from the Global Majority share with us in confidence how the Americans demand that they join their sanctions against Russia and what threats they use. That prompts an interesting conclusion about US diplomacy and what it now amounts to.
🌎 Latin America is one of our major partners. Our trade is growing substantially and investment activities are also gaining momentum.
