🎙 President of Russia Vladimir Putin summed up the results of the year and answered questions from journalists and the people of Russia in a live broadcast (December 19, 2024)

#Sovereignty

• Russia has become significantly stronger. We are becoming a truly sovereign country. We are capable of firmly standing on our feet when it comes to the economy. We are strengthening our defence capability.

• Sovereignty is extremely important. It comes from within, should be embedded in the heart itself.

#RussianEconomy

• The situation in Russian economy is stable and solid. We are growing in spite of any external threats or attempts at outside influence.

• International financial and economic institutions ranked Russia as Europe’s biggest economy in terms of volume, in terms of purchasing power parity, and the world’s 4th largest economy.

#UkrainianCrisis

• If one were to look at the situation in 2022, knowing what is happening now, I would think the early 2022 decision [to start the special military operation] should have been made sooner.

• We are ready to engage in dialogue without any preconditions. However, as I have mentioned numerous times before, based on the agreements that we reached during the negotiation process in Istanbul at the end of 2022 and proceeding from the current realities on the ground.

• There is no indication in the Ukrainian constitution that the president's powers сould be extended. If one takes part in elections and becomes legitimate, then we will talk to that person, even if it's Zelensky.

#Syria

• Our position firmly aligns with international law and the sovereignty of all nations, including respect for Syria’s territorial integrity. This extends to supporting the stance of the current authorities governing the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic.

• The main beneficiary of the developments in Syria is Israel. Russia condemns the seizure of Syrian territories. Our position on this matter is clear and unchanging.

#NuclearDoctrine

• [In the new Basic Principles of State Policy of the Russian Federation on Nuclear Deterrence] we are talking about some new military hazards that may grow into military threats.

• If non-nuclear states threaten our existence, participate in an aggression against the Russian Federation alongside the countries that have nuclear weapons, we consider ourselves entitled to use nuclear weapons vs them.

• If similar threats are posed to Belarus, our ally and member of the Union State, the Russian Federation will consider these threats as threats to Russia. And we will do everything to ensure the security of Belarus.

#Oreshnik

• Medium-range Oreshnik missile system is a modern, a brand new weapon which can strike targets located up to 5'500 km away.

• Our missile needs a few seconds to start dispensing warheads There is no chance of shooting down these missiles.

#BRICS

BRICS is not a tool for countering the West. We focus on our own interests and the interests of the group’s member countries.

• Ensuring reciprocity, mutual respect and respecting each other’s interests have been our core guiding principles in this effort. We adopt all decisions by consensus.

#RussiaChina

• Everything [Russia and China] do in relation to each other and how we do it is based on absolute trust to policies of both Sides. We engage in nothing that contradicts our interests, and we do much that benefits both the Chinese people and the peoples of the Russian Federation. <...> The bilateral trade volume is estimated at $220-240 billion, and it continues to grow.

#RussiaUSA

• I don’t know when we will meet [with Donald Trump]. I haven't spoken to him for more than four years. I’m ready to talk any time and will be ready to meet with him.

#Victory80

• We will be happy to see all those who wish to visit our country to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Victory over Nazism.

• The losses of the US and Britain in World War II are incomparable to those of the Soviet Union. Their contribution varied, yet we all the same cherish their participation.

🕯 On January 27, the world observes International Holocaust Remembrance Day. #OnThisDay, 8️⃣0️⃣ years ago, during the Vistula-Oder Offensive, the Red Army’s 1st Ukrainian Front led by USSR Marshal Ivan Konev liberated the prisoners of Auschwitz-Birkenau (Oswiecim), the largest Nazi concentration camp.

In memory of the Holocaust tragedy, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution in November 2005, co-authored by the Russian Federation, proclaiming January 27 as a day of remembrance for the millions of victims of the Nazi genocide — Jews, Roma, Slavs and members of other ethnic groups.

The Nazi regime’s systematic policy of exterminating peoples deemed undesirable by Hitler’s Germany resulted in the ruthless murder of over 6 million Jews, along with millions of others.

In January 1942, during the Wannsee Conference, the Third Reich’s senior officials approved the so-called “Final solution to the Jewish question”, which aimed to annihilate 11 million Jews. That same year, the Nazi leadership finalised the Generalplan Ost, which called for the “relocation” or extermination of over 30 million Slavs and the “Germanisation” of Eastern Europe.

📄 The full extent of the Holocaust’s horrors became known to the general public after the liberation of Nazi concentration camps in 1945. Irrefutable evidence of genocide, including documentary materials, survivor testimonies and confessions from the Nazis themselves, were presented during the Nuremberg Trials (1945-1946). Key Nazi leaders, including those directly involved in the Holocaust organisation and execution, were convicted and sentenced to death or life imprisonment.

Today we honour all victims of the Holocaust and the bravery of the Red Army soldiers who liberated the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

Around the world, Jewish organisations lead commemorative events marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day, emphasising the urgency of combating xenophobia, racism and other forms of intolerance. In Russia, the Holocaust Remembrance Week, organised by the Russian Jewish Congress, is being held for the 11th time this year, running from January 15 to 31.

🙏 These commemorative events help preserve the historical truth about the atrocities of World War II, remind of the Red Army’s liberation of Auschwitz, and honour the heroism of all peoples of the former USSR and their role saving Jews and other peoples across Europe. Representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry traditionally take part in these events.

🏅 Remarks by President of Russia, Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Vladimir Putin at a military parade marking the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (May 9, 2025)

💬 President Putin: Citizens of Russia, veterans, guests, comrade soldiers and sailors, sergeants and sergeant majors, midshipmen and warrant officers, comrade officers, generals and admirals!

I congratulate you on the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War!

Today, we are all united by the feelings of joy and grief, pride and gratitude, and admiration for the generation that crushed Nazism and won freedom and peace for all humanity at the cost of millions of lives.

We faithfully preserve the memory of those historic, glorious events. As the heirs of the victors, today we celebrate Victory Day as the most important holiday for the country, which the entire nation, each family, each of us holds dear. <...>

We remember the lessons of WWII and will never agree with the distortion of those events or attempts to justify the murderers and slander the true victors.

Our duty is to defend the honour of the Red Army soldiers and commanders, and the heroism of fighters of different ethnic backgrounds who will forever remain Russian soldiers in world history.

❗️ Russia has been and will continue to be an indestructible obstacle to Nazism, Russophobia and anti-Semitism, and will stand in the way of the violence perpetrated by the champions of these aggressive and destructive ideas.

Truth and justice are on our side. The whole of Russia, our society and all people support the participants in the special military operation. We are proud of their courage and spirit, and their steely determination that has always brought us Victory.

The Soviet Union bore the brunt of the enemy’s most savage and relentless assaults. Millions of people, once devoted solely to peaceful labour, took up arms and stood firm to the death on every hill, bridgehead, and defensive line. The outcome of WWII was determined by decisive victories in major battles of Moscow and Stalingrad, on the Kursk Bulge and the Dnieper River, by the courage of the defenders of Belarus, who were the first to face the invader, by staunch resistance at the Brest Fortress and in Mogilev, Odessa, Sevastopol, Murmansk, Tula and Smolensk, by the heroism of the residents of besieged Leningrad. <...>

The contribution of the peoples of Central Asia and the South Caucasus was immense. From these regions came a steady flow of trains delivering everything the front needed. Hospitals were established, and hundreds of thousands of evacuees found a second home there. <...>

We honour every veteran of the Great Patriotic War and bow our heads in remembrance of all who gave their lives for Victory. <...>

We bow our heads before our fallen comrades-in-arms who laid down their lives as heroes in a righteous battle for Russia.

Nearly 80% of the world’s population were drawn into the fiery orbit of WWII.

The complete defeat of Nazi Germany, militarist Japan and their satellites around the world was achieved through the combined efforts of the Allied Nations.

☝️ We will never forget that the opening of the Second Front in Europe, which took place after the decisive battles in the territory of the Soviet Union, hastened Victory. We highly appreciate the contribution made to our common struggle by the Allied armies, members of the Resistance, the courageous people of China, and all those who fought for a peaceful future.

We will continue to look up to our veterans, taking example from their wholehearted love of the Motherland and commitment to defending our homeland and the values of humanism and justice. We will give these traditions and this great heritage the biggest place in our hearts and will pass them on to future generations.

We will always rely on our unity in battle and in peaceful endeavours, in striving for strategic goals and tackling problems for the benefit of Russia and its greatness and prosperity.

Glory to the victorious nation!

Happy Victory Day!

Hurrah!

🎖 On May 8, the “Immortal Regiment” procession took place on the territory of the Russian Embassy in the United States with the participation of Ambassador A.Darchiev and the staff of the diplomatic mission, members of their families, diplomats from a number of CIS countries, Russian journalists and compatriots. The gathered honored the memory of their relatives and friends who fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.

🇷🇺🇺🇸 In a brief speech A.Darchiev emphasized that the initiative of the “Immortal Regiment” is important because it does not allow forgetting the feat of the Soviet warrior-liberator, the heroic and legendary Red Army, which broke the back of the Nazi death machine and saved the peoples of Europe, where today they are trying to rewrite history. He emphasized the experience of the anti-Hitler coalition, which is especially in demand now, when a “window of opportunity” has opened for the return of relations between Russia and the United States, as great powers responsible for stability and security around the world, to normality and common sense.

🔹 The Russian Ambassador expressed gratitude to the compatriots who were not afraid to openly march on May 3 with the “Immortal Regiment”, despite threats and attempts at provocation, in the center of Washington, D.C., from the White House to the World War II Memorial.

🎖 Prior to the march, in keeping with a good tradition that began in 2020, the Immortal Regiment participants planted lilac bushes in the Embassy's Garden of Remembrance as a sign of respect and gratitude to the soldiers-liberators. It was with lilac bouquets that the grateful citizens of Europe greeted them in the victorious 1945.
