🎙️Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Russia to #UNESCO R.Alyautdinov:

Good wishes to the Delegation of India 🇮🇳 and all Hindi speakers on World Hindi Day!

Hindi is 1 of the 10 official languages of UNESCO.

🌏World Hindi Day is celebrated on 🔟th January
🗓️ On January 24, World Day for African and Afrodescendant Culture is celebrated. This Day was proclaimed in 2019 by #UNESCO.

🔹The Permanent Delegate of Russia 🇷🇺 to UNESCO H.E. Mr. Rinat Alyautdinov took part in the celebrations at the HQ.

🔹We stress the dynamic cooperation between Russia 🇷🇺 and African States in the field of culture, including closer ties between relevant organisations and associations, increased delegation exchanges and touring activities, and the holding of cultural events in the Russian Federation and in the countries of the African continent.

🔹We are committed to further strengthening cooperation with African States in the cultural sphere, including in UNESCO.

Key points

💬 The Soviet Union decided to join #UNESCO guided by the goals, principles and ideals laid out in its Charter, which included universal welfare, refusal of confrontation, equality, mutual respect, and equal rights for all people on Earth without exception in the spheres of culture, science, and education.

The Soviet Union was among the leaders. Now, as the Russian Federation, we are trying to keep this position. In the 1960s-1970s (the Soviet Union joined UNESCO in 1954), we began to strongly promote specific projects that fit into UNESCO’s mandate.

• Our country and a group of enthusiasts have initiated an international communications programme, which was built on crucial principles such as ensuring freedom of speech, safe journalistic activities, and unhindered conditions for journalistic work.

• We have indeed made a vast contribution to shaping the existing UNESCO agenda. Every year, we hold a meeting of the governmental Commission for UNESCO, which I chair. It is a major entity reflecting the entire range of our achievements in science, culture and education.

🌍 We are helping African countries in several areas. Africa is a priority for UNESCO, meaning that, in all areas of activity, including bodies, commissions and other events that we initiate, we pay special attention to this continent.

• Just like the UN Secretariat, the UNESCO Secretariat has been largely privatised by the West. Time after time, it has strayed from its statutory duties which require it to be a unifying body and to stick to a neutral and unbiased position, rather than to do any government’s bidding. All these principles from the UN Charter and the UNESCO Charter often get violated.

• The saddest part about the reputation of the current UNESCO leaders is that they have adopted an absolutely biased stance with regard to the Ukraine crisis in flagrant violation of the UNESCO Constitution, which insists on ensuring equal rights when it comes to access to education for all.

☝️ I believe pulling out of UNESCO is not an option. We should instead fight this absolutely biased and unacceptable stance on the part of the Secretariat from within. That is exactly what we are doing: requesting information. The Secretariat is under obligation to respond to requests filed by member countries. Whenever we receive perfunctory answers to our inquiries, we make that state of affairs public.

🌍Together with Russian scientists representing the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Quantum Centre I took part in the opening ceremony of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology held today at #UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

The Year was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly on the initiative of UNESCO with the support of our country.

🔥We are rightly proud of the contribution of outstanding Russian physicists, Nobel Prize winners Lev Landau, Nikolay Basov, Zhores Alferov to the development of quantum science.

🏆Their breakthrough discoveries led to the development of quantum mechanics, the creation of the first quantum generator and quantum electronics.

🎤We expect that the celebration of the Year in 2025 will contribute to the consolidation of international efforts in the field of popularisation and development of quantum research for the benefit of all mankind.
🔹On February 6, the regular meeting of the Group of Friends for Priority Africa was held at UNESCO HQ with the participation of the Russian Federation 🇷🇺.

🔹Russia 🇷🇺 provides assistance to African countries in a wide range of #UNESCO areas of competence. In 2024, our country made a voluntary contribution to African countries' projects through the International Programme for the Development of Communication

🔹We intend to continue to pay special attention to aid to Africa in UNESCO.
🎙Permanent Delegate of Russia 🇷🇺 to UNESCO Mr. Rinat Alyautdinov in response to a TASS question:

💬 Donald Trump's Executive Order to review US membership in #UNESCO in the near future calls into question the possibility of repaying the huge US debt to the Organisation (amounting to over $600 million), which exceeds Organisation’s annual budget.

☝️In this case the developing countries, first of all, African, which counted on Washington to fulfil its financial obligations, may be most affected.

📆 On 6th of February by invitation of the Chinese 🇨🇳delegation to #UNESCO took part in the event dedicated to celebration of the Spring Festival at UNESCO Headquarters.

☝️In December 2024 the Chinese Spring Festival (Chinese Lunar New Year) as well as the rituals and unique cultural elements associated with this holiday were inscribed on the UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
⚡️On February 14, in the village of Cherkasskaya Konopelka, Kursk region 🇷🇺 the Channel One film crew was subjected to a targeted attack by militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As a result, cameraman Yuriy Sholmov was seriously injured.

📢We draw the attention of #UNESCO Secretariat to this crime of the Kiev regime against Russian journalists and call on Director-General A.Azoulay in accordance with relevant decisions of the General Conference and the Executive Council, to condemn this attack that resulted in physical violence against the journalist Yuriy Sholmov.
📆On February 20 at the Mother Language Day at #UNESCO, the Russian side presented the third edition of Almanac "My Mother Tongue".

⚡️The Almanac was prepared by the Russian Committee of "Information for All Programme" with support of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs. It contains information about unique Russian experience of preserving indigenous languages, multilingual education, and promoting traditional culture.

🇷🇺 Russia makes a significant contribution to the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, and chairs the working group on multilingualism of UNESCO "Information for All Programme".
