Dear friends and colleagues,

Welcome to the Telegram-channel of the First CIS Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Here we will be publishing the information about the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), its member countries, their achievements and the opportunities the EAEU creates for them.

For greater convenience, we will introduce several sections within our channel, such as #general_infromation; #Eurasia4You; #business; #international_cooperation; #stay_informed; #culture etc.

We hope that with the development of the EAEU this list will expand😊.

Despite the fact that the majority of the information we will be publishing will be in Russian, once a week we will make publications in English and Spanish. For greater convenience, the posts in English will be made on Tuesdays and the posts in Spanish – on Thursdays.

Our account is based on the universal values of respect.

We hope this will be an interesting journey and welcome to the EAEU!
Congratulations on May Day!

On May 1 we’ll tell you the history of the holiday and its status in the EAEU countries.

In Russia May Day was celebrated for the first time in 1890 in Warsaw (which was part of the Russian Empire at that time). The first illegal celebrations in Saint Petersburg and Moscow were held in 1891 and 1895 respectively. After the October Revolution the holiday became an official day off work, keeping its status until nowadays.

In the Soviet Union on May 1 demonstrations were usually held, thus, becoming one of the symbols of the holiday. The last official May 1 demonstration in Russia took place in 1990. Nowadays the holiday no longer has any political background and is commonly seen as a spring holiday and the start of the countryside season.

Nowadays the International Workers' Day is celebrated in four of five countries of the EAEU: Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Russia, where it is a public holiday. In Kazakhstan May 1 is also a day off work but for another reason: the country honors its People's Unity Day. Usually vivid spring events are also held in Kazakhstan to celebrate this holiday.

We congratulate our Kazakh friends and colleagues on the Kazakhstan People’s Unity Day!
