No One Picked Up Life is Strange: Double Exposure GDC Award Because "We All Got Laid Off"

Double Exposure got the Social Impact Award at GDC 2025, which "advances equality, justice, intersectionality, and/or sustainability," but there was nobody to receive it. The game sales were so bad that the publisher was in rush to fire the team.

Eidos Montreal will fire 75 people after their current development will be completed. We should keep in mind that the majority of Deus Ex developers left it long ago (soon after Mankind Divided was released and discontinued).

The new game they were working on isn't Deus Ex either: this one was closed a year ago and then they fired 97 people.

A small studio shared that after 15 months after the closure, 40% of their ex-members are insecure about their positions and 25% are completely unemployed (including several people, who found new places that also closed).

The 2025 is still not even close to a healthy industry. Too many talented people are staying low or switching to other industries.

And according to Bloomberg, Intel is planning to fire 21 thousand people next week, mostly management staff to link departments and teams closer to each other.

They already fired 19 thousand about a year ago. And by the end of 2024 they've had 108 000 workers left.

Respawn is laying off staff: people from Apex and Jedi teams are also affected, two early stage projects are cancelled.
