The Embassy staff, compatriots living in the United States, and Americans who care about the events of the Great Patriotic War cherish the memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War. We make every effort to preserve the historical truth and glorify the feat of the Victors' Generation. We honor the heroes of those harsh years, who at the cost of their lives liberated the world from Nazi filth.
On January 11, on the 80th anniversary of the death of Soviet pilots - participants of the Zebra project to transfer Catalina seaplanes to the USSR in Elizabeth City (North Carolina), grateful descendants paid tribute to the valor and courage of our ancestors. As a sign of remembrance and sorrow, they lowered scarlet carnations onto the water.
On this day in 1945 when taking off from the Pasquotank River there was a plane crash, the victims of which were 4 Red Army soldiers: commander - Captain Nikolai Mikhailovich Chikov, navigator - Captain Vladimir Moiseevich Levin, flight engineer - Lieutenant Dmitry Mikhailovich Medvedev and flight mechanic - Lieutenant Afanasy Ivanovich Borodin, as well as British Air Force navigator - Lieutenant Peter Nataros.
🇷🇺 🇺🇸 Project Zebra, declassified in December 2012, is one of the symbols of the combat brotherhood of the USSR and the USA, who fought shoulder to shoulder against the Nazi executioners. It serves as an example of unity between the two countries, which managed to overcome their differences in time to fight against a common enemy. Due to the efforts of the members of the anti-Hitler coalition, with the decisive role of the Red Army, we liberated the world from the “brown plague”.
It is sad that the West is trying to revise history, belittling the greatest feat of the Soviet people in defeating the Nazi hordes and saving many peoples of “non-Aryan” origin from annihilation. While in the United States, we are acutely aware of the desire of the local political establishment to forget the stages of the Russian-American alliance during the Second World War. The refusal to approve the visit of Russian diplomats to Elizabeth City for the memorial ceremony is a clear confirmation of this.
🎖 In the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, it is especially important to remember the lessons of history, to fight against any attempts to justify Nazi criminals and their accomplices, and even more so to put them on a pedestal of honor, as is done in Ukraine. It is necessary to tell the younger generation about the tragic events of the past, working together to immortalize the memory of the heroes of those years.
We bow to the defenders of the Fatherland. No one is forgotten and nothing is forgotten!

The staff of the Russian Embassy in the United States honors the sacred for our people memory of the Great Patriotic War. Each of us cherishes the memories of our heroes - our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers, mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers, who with incredible labor and courage forged the Victory on the front lines and on the home front. We especially appreciate the fact that Russian diplomats still have the opportunity to communicate with witnesses of the war years of 1941-1945. Although it is becoming increasingly difficult to do so due to the restrictions on movement around the country imposed by the United States authorities.
On the eve of the 81st anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade, the staff of the Embassy and the Office of the Defense Attaché met with veterans living in the U.S. - participants of the defense and residents of the unconquered city. They conveyed the message of the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov on the occasion of the memorable date. They handed over jubilee diaries prepared by the Embassy on the main milestones of the Great Patriotic War.
In their congratulations the diplomats expressed their deep gratitude and admiration for the unbreakable spirit of the blockade survivors and their kind attitude to life. In the year of the Defender of the Fatherland and the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory they emphasized the importance of passing on to the next generations the truth about the events of those years and the price our ancestors had to pay to save the peoples of the world from extermination. They stressed the need to stop at the root the falsification of history and any manifestations of neo-Nazism.
We bow to the generation of Heroes! Wishing them good health and prosperity! No one is forgotten and nothing is forgotten!

🌟 In early April 1944, the Crimean strategic offensive of the Soviet forces commenced during the Great Patriotic War.
The Nazi-occupied peninsula was liberated in just 35 days through the coordinated efforts of Red Army units, the Black Sea Fleet, and the Azov Warship Flotilla, under the command of Chief of General Staff, Marshal of the Soviet Union Alexander Vasilevsky.
By autumn 1943, Soviet forces encircled on the Crimean Peninsula a Nazi troops grouping totalling over 200'000 personnel strength (soldiers and officers).
⚔️ At dawn on April 8, 1944, the Soviet forces delivered a crushing blow to the Nazi positions and breached the enemy defences by April 10. During the next three days, the cities of Dzhankoi, Kerch, Yevpatoriya, Simferopol, Feodosiya, Bakhchisarai, Alushta, and Yalta were liberated.
April 15 marked the onset of fierce fighting on the approaches to #Sevastopol, the main base of the USSR Black Sea Fleet, which the Germans had turned into a heavily fortified zone.
Thanks to the selflessness, unwavering resolve, and valour of Soviet soldiers, as well as a strong support from the guerrilla movement, Sevastopol was liberated on May 9, 1944. The German and Romanian occupant troops were crushed. By May 12, 1944, the remnants of the enemy grouping laid down arms and surrendered on Cape Khersones.
The main achievement of the operation was the complete destruction of Germany’s 17th Army and the final liberation of Crimea. The Crimean Offensive is regarded as one of the most successful operations of the allied forces during #WWII.
🎖All in all, 238 people were awarded the title of #HeroOfTheSovietUnion following the Crimean Offensive, and thousands of other participants of the operation were decorated with orders and medals.

🎦 On April 23, the Ambassador of Russia to the United States Alexander Darchiev opened the traditional film marathon that is held at the Embassy on the occasion of the Victory Day on May 9 and the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.
🔹The guests of the event, including representatives of diplomatic missions of the CIS countries, employees of Russian missions in the USA, compatriots, journalists and American experts specializing in Russia, watched two episodes (“From the Balkans to Vienna” and “Allies”) of the legendary documentary series “The Great Patriotic War”, which was released in the USA under the title “The Unknown War”.
🔹 In a brief speech before the screening, Mr. Darcheyev noted that the series created by the military cameraman and brilliant Soviet documentary filmmaker Roman Karmen is based on unique film documents, shot in a combat situation, about the battles that were decisive for our country and the whole World War II, which is still unknown to the general audience in the United States.
🇷🇺🇺🇸 As emphasized by the Ambassador of Russia, it is important that the film tells in detail about the Soviet-American combat alliance in the fight against a common enemy, which sets an example for bringing the relations between Russia and the United States out of the crisis state inherited from the previous American administration.
🔹 On April 30, more episodes of the cinematic masterpiece, dedicated to the final battles of the Great Patriotic War, are scheduled to be screened.
