NEW: Biden approves antipersonnel mines for Ukraine, undoing his own policy

President Joe Biden has authorized the provision of antipersonnel land mines to Ukraine, two U.S. officials said, a step that will bolster Kyiv’s defenses against advancing Russian troops but has drawn criticism from arms control groups.

The move comes in the wake of the White House’s recent authorization allowing Ukraine to use a powerful long-range missile system to strike inside Russia — part of a sweep of urgent actions the lame-duck Biden administration is taking to help Kyiv’s faltering war effort

NEW: North Korean General leads North Korean troops in Russia

Col. Gen. Kim Yong Bok, a senior North Korean military figure and leader of the country’s special forces, has become a prominent figure in Russia, where over 11,000 North Korean soldiers have been deployed to support Moscow’s fight against Ukraine. Previously maintaining a low public profile due to the sensitive nature of his role, Kim now leads efforts to integrate North Korean troops with Russian forces and establish a pipeline for future deployments.

Kim’s presence in Russia follows a mutual defense pact between North Korea and Russia, signed after Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Pyongyang in June.

Houthis Launch Two Missile Attacks on Turkish Cargo Ship in Red Sea

Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched two missile attacks within 24 hours on the Panama-flagged Turkish cargo vessel Anadolu S as it traveled through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. Both attacks targeted the 52,200 dwt bulk carrier, owned by Istanbul-based Oras Shipping, but the crew escaped unharmed.

The first attack took place on November 17, 2024, approximately 48 kilometers west of Mocha, with a missile landing near the ship. Despite Houthi attempts to redirect the vessel into Yemeni waters via radio communication, the captain maintained course.

A second attack occurred on November 18, 2024, about 112 kilometers southeast of Aden, with another missile landing close to the vessel. The Anadolu S and its crew safely continued their journey.
