The attack was apparently carried out with a possible #Russia-made 🇷🇺 9M133-1 'Kornet-E' anti-tank guided missile (ATGM).

🇸🇩 Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council and Army Chief (SAF) Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said he will not attend talks with the rebel Rapid Reaction Force (RSF) in Switzerland following a drone attack on him.

“We will not retreat, we will not surrender and we will not negotiate,” the head of state told troops immediately after the attack. His words are quoted by Al-Jazeera.

Unknown UAVs attacked a military base in Gibeit on July 31, when a graduation ceremony was taking place there. The Sudanese leader survived an assassination attempt, but at least five people were killed.

🇸🇩 Sudan sending delegation to Cairo to meet U.S. and Egyptian mediators

Sudan's government said it will send a delegation to Cairo for discussions with U.S. and Egyptian officials on Monday, keeping open the question of participation in peace talks aimed at ending a 16-month war.

The government, controlled by the army which is fighting the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for control of the country, has said it would not attend the peace talks in Switzerland unless a previous agreement struck in Jeddah is implemented.

A statement from the ruling Transitional Sovereign Council said the decision to go to Cairo came after contacts with the US special envoy and the Egyptian government, which is an observer in the talks, and was limited to discussing implementation of the Jeddah agreement, under which the RSF would leave civilian areas.

🇸🇩 Sudan’s warring parties agree to open two aid routes, mediators say

Sudan’s warring parties have ended peace talks in Switzerland by agreeing to improve access for humanitarian aid, with two routes identified to ensure the flow of resources to civilians.

But mediators at the peace talks noted that the Sudanese army’s absence from the discussions hindered progress in the discussions to end the country’s 16-month-long war.

Friday marked the conclusion of the 10-day peace talks, led by the United States in the Swiss city of Geneva.

During the talks, a group of mediators representing countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates tried to negotiate more aid and protection for Sudanese civilians facing famine, mass displacement and disease.

🇸🇩 Port Sudan faces water crisis after deadly dam collapse

Tens of thousands of homes in eastern Sudan have been destroyed after a dam burst due to weeks of heavy rain, wiping out at least 20 villages. The disaster has claimed at least 30 lives, with 200 people still missing.

Port Sudan is the de facto capital, home to the government, diplomats, and aid agencies supporting hundreds of thousands displaced by civil war.

"The city is threatened with thirst in the coming days," warned the Sudanese Environmentalists Association in a statement.

The UN’s humanitarian organisation Ocha last week estimated that 317,000 people have been affected since June by flooding in 16 of Sudan’s 18 states.
