Theophrast Paracelsus on capitalism:
"There are several gangs outside the monarchies which make a living on the paths of unrighteousness, such as the merchants, interest brokers, money-lenders, buying agents, rag-and-bone men, hucksters, and many others, who [are] neither masters nor servants. They have an alien ungodlylivelihood which is forbidden in the Ten Commandments. Lending money and earning interest destroys commonality. Agency creates inflation and comes from the devil and his own. For these people behave like false prophets towards the common man. They talk glibly, and the common man knows no better. Satan draws his authority from them . . . You will know them by their works. They lie and trick, lend on interest, against security . . . why do you tolerate them among you? You may think they are on your side, but they are only on their own side and respect neither God nor His kingdom. They take the highest chair and the highest place at the table, and the whole world defers to them."
Excellent!

Paracelsus continues to say the ultimate truth about capitalists:
They call a disgrace a clever move, a deception a masterpiece.
There can be no greater deception of one’s neighbour than the
doings of businessmen. Their whole life is devilish. They seduce rich and poor . . . They steal the land and labour from princes and lords with cunning and polite deception. They seduce all estates and want to be the best, they are the greatest favourites of the princes and arc held in high regard. They mix with the nobility and the princes only to swindle them hugely . . . What is their luxury, what is their belief, what is their whole Christian life? Nothing, for it is all deception and a devilish life. They arc pepper-traders and deal in spices. What good is it? Whom docs it benefit? . . . Docs not a peasant live as well on turnips as someone who eats spices? All traders in spices are full of the devil and his servants, through whom he disgraces the people . . . They are whores and rogues, thieves and scoundrels . . . Where does their wealth come from? From lies, deceptions, and unjust takings.
