🇻🇪 - On Venezuela and other countries with authoritarian left, the doctrine of liberalism is crystal clear: you have the right to use force against a tyrannical state.

Why the Venezuelan liberals don't live according to their own ideology is confusing to be fair.
🇺🇸 - Something the US should keep in mind: You don't get to live purely on welfare from your proxies. Because at some point, when you want to only boss around but have 0 dead yourself, people won't want to do the dirty work for you anymore and will seek to find a way or another to replace you.

And we're seeing it with Ukraine and Israel doing more and more wild stuff.

🇺🇸🇪🇺 - Liberalism is incompatible with human dignity. Liberalism doesn't recognize that Mankind exist for any other purpose than serving the larger liberal ideology. Liberalism doesn't think of Human nature as being rooted in nation, religion or biology.

Liberalism is fundamentally a nihilism that, like communism before it, has within it the seeds of its own destruction. If the West doesn't do what it needs against liberalism, it will meet the fate of the Roman Empire.

🇻🇦 - The only thing that should be perfect is love, even more so because people, actions and things are by nature imperfect.
🇨🇦 - Quebec's near-invention of the notion of "collective rights" is the result of a situation where you have, regarding ethnicity, a minority-majority province given the French situation. Thus, the rights that a minority should have in a liberal democracy are projected into the provincial politics Quebec. And obviously, the successive governments of Quebec have repeatedly pushed for expanding the rights of the French-speaking population. In this context, the creation of "collective rights" wasn't necessary.

There was a sequence of events where honestly the anglos from Quebec overplayed their hands and ended up upending Canadian constitutionnal law.

First of all, they started fighting all French language laws in courts, didn't work for the most part. Then, the feds passed the new constitution. The West was afraid of the feds, so they imposed a notwithstanding clause. Quebec immediately used it for bill 101. Then, when the feds and their support in the province decided to try the same thing with secularism, the process repeated.

Thus, by taking the side of the anglos, which were a force which was politically both in Canada and Quebec in decline, the courts created what was first a misunderstanding, and in the last few years became defiance towards the idea of judicial checks and balances.

This is why I think that independence is possibly the single event that could reconcile Quebec with a more traditionnal approach to liberal democracy: because the trust with the Canadian state and especially judiciary on cultural issues will probably never come back.
