"У нас разнообразная программа: известные во всем мире и наши отечественные мелодии, импровизации из индийских фильмов, которые были популярны в советское время, классика. В нашем ансамбле играют настоящие мастера джазовой импровизации", - сказал Бутман.
В состав квинтета также входят пианист и вокалист Олег Аккуратов, гитарист Евгений Побожий, барабанщик Эдуард Зизак и контрабасист Николай Затолочный. В исполнении коллектива в Индии звучат авторские произведения Бутмана, джазовые сочинения и российские пьесы в аранжировке.
"Мы в Индии не первый раз. Уже знаем, что местная публика любит и как воспринимает. Здешним людям близка хорошая музыка, которая сыграна блестящими музыкантами. Мы все восхищаемся звуками, которые вызывают эмоции. Если человек играет хорошо, есть фантазия, разнообразие, эмоции, лирика, экспрессия, все это создает эффект, которого пытаются добиться все артисты", - отметил музыкант.
В Нью-Дели состоялись уже два выступления квинтета, в том числе для соотечественников в Русском доме. Гастроли завершатся в Мумбаи 6 декабря.

Россиянка удостоена премии ЮНЕСКО имени Д. И. Менделеева за новаторский метод синтеза углерод-азотной связи
Академик РАН, профессор химического факультета МГУ имени М. В. Ломоносова Ирина Белецкая была отмечена жюри за фундаментальный научный вклад в развитие химии, новаторские разработки новых металлоорганических реакций и применение катализаторов на основе переходных металлов и металлических наночастиц в органическом синтезе.
📍В 1995 году Ирина Белецкая совместно с зарубежными коллегами Стивеном Бухвальдом и Джоном Хартвигом открыла новаторский метод синтеза углерод-азотной связи — распространенного компонента биологически активных молекул и лекарственных препаратов.
📍Фундаментальные открытия академика Белецкой уже нашли применение в агропромышленном комплексе, нефтехимической и фармацевтической промышленности.
Церемония вручения премии пройдет 13 декабря в главном здании Российской академии наук в Москве. Прямая трансляция будет доступна на официальном сайте ЮНЕСКО с переводом на русский язык.
Отметим, что Международная премия ЮНЕСКО-России имени Д. И. Менделеева за достижения в области фундаментальных наук была учреждена при активном участии Минобрнауки России в 2019 году.

Top 3 'Red Westerns' from the USSR
The popularity of Westerns in the 20th century went far beyond the United States. Movies about brave cowboys, vile bandits and ruthless Indians were made all over the world.
Westerns also made their way behind the Iron Curtain. In the USSR, this genre was reimagined, with the so-called 'Eastern' emerging.
The setting was shifted from the Wild West to Russia engulfed in the Civil War and the ‘Red’, ‘White’ and various rebels and anarchists of that era replaced the cowboys, bandits and indians.
At the same time, Soviet filmmakers also paid homage to classic cowboy stories. The shooting of 'Soviet Westerns' invariably took place in Crimea. “Authentic” American towns were built there, plastic cacti were "planted"and absorbent cotton was scattered around the place to imitate cotton plantations.
The most successful of these so-called 'Red Westerns' filmed in the USSR were 'The Headless Horseman' (1973), 'Armed and Very Dangerous' (1977) and 'A Man from the Boulevard des Capucines' (1987).
The first two were based on works by American writers, while the third follows an original script. It is a unique movie for the Soviet movie industry, as it combines certain elements of a Western, a comedy and a musical.

Why is Russia called ‘Mother’?
‘Mother Russia’ (‘Rossiya-Matushka’) is one of the main symbols of national unity in Russian political culture, personifying the country and its people. The image is well known not only in Russia, but also abroad.
The roots of the symbol go deep into history. It is directly linked to one of the most important deities in the pantheon of the Slavs, the ‘Mother of Moist Earth’, who gave life to all living creatures and plants.
In the Imperial period, ‘Mother Russia’ was a symbol of unity, not just of the Orthodox Eastern Slav peoples (Russians, Ukrainians and Belorussians), but of all the peoples that were part of the enormous state.
The image of ‘Father the Tsar’ was inseparably linked to that of ‘Mother Russia’. On being crowned tsar, it was as if the monarch was joined with her in sacred wedlock, acquiring authority over her and the right to speak and act in her name.
The Bolsheviks associated the popular symbol with Tsarist Russia's resistance to change and backwardness. But, after several decades of oblivion, it was revived in Soviet society in the guise of ‘Rodina-Mat’ – the ‘Motherland’ – which reached peak popularity during World War II.
Following the break-up of the Soviet Union, Russia found itself in the grip of a protracted economic and political crisis and hardly anyone recalled formerly-prevalent ideological tropes. These days, however, ‘Mother Russia’ is, again, seen as one of the most important symbols of national unity.

Why is Russia called ‘Mother’?
The history of the origin of one of Russia’s main national symbols goes back to the time of the ancient Slavs.
FREE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE COURSE INAUGURATED
The Russian House in Trivandrum, jointly with the St Petersburg State University, launched a special Russian language course for school and college students in India. More than 150 college and school students started learning Russian thanks to this free course. Form 430 students who had responded to our advertisements, we selected 95 university students and 70 school students. A total of seven groups were formed. The groups are named after major cities in Russia. There will be two online classes weekly. Experienced teachers from St. Petersburg State University will conduct classes from 11 December onwards. Those who will successfully complete the online class will be eligible to attend the free offline classes at the Russian House. The offline special course will be conducted in April and May 2024, and the faculty will be provided by St Petersburg State University.
Deputy Chief of Mission of the Russian Embassy in New Delhi Mr Roman Babushkin inaugurated this joint initiative of the Russian House and St Petersburg State University. In his address, Mr Babushkin stressed the importance of conducting such Russian language courses in India. " There’s a high demand to study the Russian language in India and this initiative would help to respond to it in the most efficient way making this option widely available. This initiative is of a highly strategic nature. Its importance is far beyond physical gains that can be achieved through any valuable contracts or situational decisions. It’s a huge contribution to the future of our relationship. It would make enthusiastic young people willing to achieve much more for this relationship. During 76 years of diplomatic relations, we achieved a lot, but even much more can and should be done. Even the sky is not the limit for the expansion of our historical friendship, mutually beneficial cooperation and traditional, centuries long people-to-people affinity," said Mr Babushkin.
In his address, the head of the language testing Centre of the St Petersburg State University, Mr Dmitry Ptyushkin, said that the Russian language was gaining special importance in the world, because it is not only the language of education, career growth, a better future, and the establishment of new economic and friendly ties. But it is also the language in which the truth is told. And the truth is the most important thing.
The Honorary Consul of Russia and Director of the Russian House in Trivandrum Mr Ratheesh C Nair said that the Russian House is committed to establishing tie up with other educational establishments in Russia for popularising Russian language.
"Russian is taught in four schools and one college in Trivandrum. Also, the Russian department at the University of Kerala and the language institute at the Russian House offer classes. I have no doubt that our association with St Petersburg State University will help us popularising the Russian language, a language in which great literary works were written," said Mr Nair.
Registrar of the University of Kerala Prof. K.S.Anilkumar said that the University of Kerala had signed agreements with Russian universities, and now, a new agreement with St Petersburg State University would help promoting faculty and student exchange programmes. Chief Methodologist of the Language Testing Centre of the Saint Petersburg University Ms Irina Ilicheva also soke on the occasion.
Almost 70 new students gathered at the Russian House to witness the inaugural ceremony, and 85 joined online.
