25 years ago, on December 11th, 1999, the Russian Cultural Center was founded. We would like to give the floor to our director, Olga Golovashchenko:
«On this day, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Russian Cultural Center. Over the past quarter of a century, our beloved and cozy mansion in Kalorama district has seen many changes. We have hosted vibrant concerts and creative events, screened films and delivered lectures, formed new connections and made friends. While the directors, the political climate, and relations between Russia and the United States have changed, one thing has remained constant: the warmth and hospitality with which the Russian Cultural Center has always welcomed its visitors.
It is difficult to deny that relations between Russia and the United States have reached an all-time low point. Since 1999, we have not seen such a policy of «cancel culture» against Russia, resulting in the rewriting of history, the erasure of great cultural figures, and the prohibition of any humanitarian contacts. Only human-to-human relations can preserve connection between our nations. Therefore, our doors are always open. We remain optimistic about a brighter future. We are always prepared for a dialogue, and work to ensure that society maintains a high cultural standard.
To move forward, each person needs spiritual guidance. In Russia, we find inspiration in our rich cultural heritage, such as works of our artists, writers and composers. The legacy of our greatest compatriots assists the younger generation in choosing the right path in life and being proud of their ancestors and history. Therefore, the words of Fyodor Dostoevsky, a prominent writer, are particularly relevant at this time: «Beauty will save the world».
