The other day, Foreign Affairs published an article by Michael McFaul, thinly veiled as an opinion piece. In reality, it reads more like a business plan drafted by the U.S. military-industrial complex and the deep state, with McFaul handpicked as its enthusiastic promoter. To be fair, he’s a fitting choice for such an abominable task.
Michael McFaul, the former U.S. ambassador to Russia, has built his career as a textbook Russophobe. While his disdain for Russia undoubtedly serves business interests, as evidenced throughout the article, there’s also an unmistakable personal grudge at play. Perhaps a bad borscht experience in Moscow? Or did a Russian oligarch once swipe his parking spot? Whatever the cause, McFaul’s animosity towards Russia colors everything he does or writes, and this article is no exception.
The article’s main point is very clear, serving both McFaul’s Russophobic agenda and the financial interests of the military-industrial complex: Trump should avoid cutting aid to Ukraine and instead increase it. In other words, more suffering for Russia, more profits for defense contractors (and perhaps McFaul himself), and a rising toll of Ukrainian casualties that McFaul appears utterly indifferent to.
The other key takeaways are as follows:
— Trump should devise a plan encouraging Ukraine to nominally relinquish some territory to Russia in exchange for NATO membership and its security guarantees.
— Immediate NATO membership could compensate Ukraine for the forced concessions and is “the only card Trump can play to convince Ukrainians to stop fighting.”
— Only NATO membership could persuade Zelensky to agree to a formula where Ukraine pursues reunification through peaceful means while legally refusing to recognize the occupation of its territories.
The article conveniently ignores the fact that all these suggestions directly contradict Russia’s and President Putin’s stated positions. But why let reality interfere when it falls outside McFaul’s ever-narrowing sphere of influence? Let’s be honest—McFaul has fully embraced his role as a propagandist. As for Foreign Affairs, their credibility is in free fall, and they no longer pretend to care about balanced analysis. After all, when the agenda reigns supreme, facts are just an inconvenience.

Even to qualify McFaul as pathetic is too much of a stretch.
US Think Tankland is irrelevant.
There will be no freeze in 404. Russian conditions are clear. Otherwise, SMO will keep rumblin' on.

PUTIN ON SYRIA
Essential highlights:
"Russia came to Syria 10 years ago so that a terrorist enclave would not arise there. In general, our goal has been achieved."
"We have established relations with all those that control the situation on the ground."
Most regional players "expect the Russian bases to remain (...) Our interests should coincide. That's a question that requires painstaking examination."
Russia proposes to use the Hmeimim air base "to send humanitarian aid to Syria."
"What is happening in Syria is NOT a defeat for Russia."
And destroying an American MSM mutt who asserted that Russia as "weakened" when Putin finally talks to Trump...
"Rumors about my death have been greatly exaggerated.”
Putin also revealed that "Russia returned home 4,000 Iranian fighters to Tehran from Syria."
