❗️ Chain of corruption: how the White Helmets compromised OPCW investigations in Syria

🔹 By enlisting the sectarian insurgent-allied, US-funded White Helmets for chemical weapons probes in Syria, the OPCW abandoned impartiality and broke its fundamental rules for collecting evidence.

🔹 Before it mired the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in an international cover-up scandal, the April 2018 probe of an alleged gas attack in the Syrian town of Douma achieved a milestone. After numerous claims of chemical weapons use in Syria, Douma marked the first time that an OPCW fact-finding mission (FFM) deployed on-site to conduct its own investigation. 

🔹 Douma was not the OPCW’s first try. Four years earlier, in May 2014, the chemical watchdog sent a team to the town of Kafr Zita. As in Douma, the organization was mandated to scrutinize insurgent-generated claims of a toxic bombing by the Syrian army. But unlike in Douma, the OPCW never reached its destination. After a roadside bomb hit the OPCW’s four-vehicle convoy, armed insurgents opened fire and briefly kidnapped the inspectors. 

🔹 The assault proved fateful. The OPCW abandoned not only the Kafr Zita mission, but all other on-site deployments in Syria going forward. It was not until the Syrian and Russian armies regained control of Douma in April 2018 — and after another violent attack, this time on a UN security team — that the OPCW would get back on the ground.

🤝 Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi

On September 21, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi on the sidelines of the high-level week at the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on the security of nuclear facilities in Ukraine, including the situation around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.

Sergey Lavrov reiterated Russia’s willingness to continue close cooperation with the #IAEA with a view to forcing the Kiev regime to immediately stop the shelling of the said plant and adjacent territory, including the city of Energodar, where the plant’s employees and their families live.

🤝 On the first day the Minister's working schedule was packed:

• Talks with President of the CAR Faustin-Archange Touadéra and President of Switzerland Ignazio Cassis
• Meetings with Ministers of Foreign Affairs of China, Brazil, Bolivia and Egypt
• Meetings with President of the ICRC Peter Maurer and IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi
• Meeting in the Astana Format
• The signing of The Inter-Ministerial Consultations Plan between the Foreign Ministries of Russia and Venezuela
• Talks with President of the 77th UNGA session Csaba Kőrösi

🇷🇺🇿🇦 Met today with the Permanent Representative of South Africa H.E. Mr. Rapulane Molekane who will Chair the Committee of the Whole at the forthcoming session of the IAEA General Conference

🇷🇺🇸🇦📞 По инициативе саудовской стороны состоялся телефонный разговор Президента России Владимира Путина с Наследным принцем Саудовской Аравии Мухаммедом Бен Сальманом Аль Саудом.

Обсуждена тематика взаимодействия в ШОС в свете принятого на недавнем саммите в Самарканде решения о предоставлении Саудовской Аравии статуса партнёра по диалогу.

Рассмотрены вопросы российско-саудовской координации в целях обеспечения стабильности на мировом нефтяном рынке.

☝️ С обеих сторон дана высокая оценка усилиям в рамках «ОПЕК плюс», подтверждено намерение и впредь придерживаться достигнутых договорённостей.

Было выражено удовлетворение в связи с состоявшейся при личном посредничестве Наследного принца передачей саудовской стороне военнопленных иностранных граждан, незаконно участвовавших в боевых действиях на Донбассе.

🤝 Констатировано, что высокими темпами развиваются торгово-экономические связи, растёт товарооборот, укрепляется взаимовыгодное сотрудничество в самых разных областях.

В ЕАЭС имеются большие возможности для развития потенциала возобновляемых источников энергии. В этом отношении очень полезен опыт и наработки России

Об этом заявил член Коллегии по энергетике и инфраструктуре ЕЭК А.Кожошев на круглом столе «Законодательное обеспечение комплексных мер государственной поддержки ветряной энергетики в Арктической зоне России, а также на территориях, приравненных к Крайнему Северу», который состоялся в Государственной Думе Федерального Собрания Российской Федерации.

На круглом столе обсуждались вопросы зеленой энергетики, в том числе производства и размещения ветряных энергетических установок (ВЭУ) в экстремальных условиях Арктики и Крайнего Севера.

На мероприятии состоялось деловое знакомство А.Кожошева с руководителем фракции Социалистической политической партии «Справедливая Россия – За Правду» Государственной Думы С.Мироновым, а также заместителем Председателя Государственной Думы А.Бабаковым. Достигнута договоренность о дальнейшем сотрудничестве.
