🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey #Lavrov’s remarks at a plenary meeting of the #G20 Ministerial Council on multilateralism, global economy and development (New Delhi, March 2, 2023):
💬 We stand in solidarity with New Delhi’s call to build a common future for humanity, which is especially important in the context of growing geopolitical confrontation. We share the practical objectives of strengthening multilateralism and overcoming global economic crises set during India’s Presidency.
❗️ I would like to apologise to the Presidency and our colleagues from the Global South for the improper behaviour of a number of Western delegations, which turned the discussion on the G20 agenda into a travesty in an attempt to shift their responsibility for failures in economic policy to others, primarily Russia. It’s kind of funny that the representatives of the countries whose leaders admitted that they have been sabotaging the UN Security Council resolution and flooding #Ukraine with weapons for war against Russia since 2015 were trying so hard.
The aggressive #Russophobia appears particularly outrageous given that the G20 Western members have never grieved at the G20 meetings over the many hundreds of thousands of lives lost in Washington’s reckless adventures in the Middle East under the pretext of national security threats that came from places 10,000 miles away from the US borders.
☝️We see no alternative to the sole legitimate international order that is embodied in the #UNCharter’s basic principles.
⛔️ It’s time to stop playing the food card. Today, the bulk of grain supplies from Ukraine are being shipped at giveaway fodder prices to the EU, rather than to the poorest countries that need them. Without any scruples, the #West is burying the UN Secretary-General’s well-known humanitarian initiative.
🤝 We will continue to make a major contribution to ensuring economic stability. We are open to an equitable dialogue at the G20. We hope that the Delhi summit in September will at least mitigate the risks created by the self-serving Western policies.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey #Lavrov on the results of his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio #Guterres. (New York, April 25, 2023)
Excerpts:
💬 Antonio Guterres focused on the prospects for the further implementation of the #BlackSeaInitiative in the context of his own proposal, which was introduced and approved on July 22, 2022. <...>
The Secretary-General described his efforts at promoting the Russian part of the deal as much as possible. ☝️So far, the progress has not been obvious. He expressed his considerations in a letter explaining the ideas on the further course of actions. This letter requires a thorough review.
❗️Thus far, we do not see the Western countries’ desire to carry out what is necessary for the successful implementation of the Secretary-General’s initiative on the package approach to exporting agriculture products from #Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
We will study his latest ideas now that we have them in black and white.

#Ukraine
Before May 9, Vladimir Zelensky cancelled Victory Day, which the majority of Ukrainian citizens hold sacred, and declared Europe Day instead. <...> By taking this decision, Vladimir Zelensky has cast a shadow over the feat accomplished by millions of Ukrainians and betrayed the memory of those who stood up to defend this land from a fascist Europe.
History develops in cycles. Eighty years after the rout of Nazism, we are again fighting this horror reborn in the West and Ukraine. This time, the enemy has tried to set against us a certain part of the population in the originally Russian areas by inculcating in them the idea of ethnic superiority. The memory of our fallen ancestors cannot allow us to let the neo-Nazis in Ukraine gain the upper hand. The declared goals are important as never before. As the Russian leadership said, they would be implemented.
#Pakistan
We are closely monitoring the situation in Pakistan following the May 9 arrest of Imran Khan, former prime minister and chairman of Pakistan’s largest opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Pakistan Movement for Justice), on corruption charges. We are seriously concerned about media reports of violent attacks by protesters on police and miliary facilities in the country.
We call on the sides to settle their differences peacefully. We hope that the large-scale protests will be held without major clashes and that the situation will normalise soon.

#Ukraine
The West has made its role in the conflict abundantly clear: Ukraine serves merely as a tool and Ukrainians as pawns it is ready to sacrifice in its standoff with Russia. The West has sacrificed literally everything on the altar of its morbid geopolitical ambitions. They are “exceptional”. Only they can govern everyone. Nobody has the right to take independent decisions, be it domestic affairs or foreign policy. The previous times of colonialism and imperialism have not receded into the past but rather are being converted to a modern format.
#UNESCO
In its commitment to confrontation, the collective West continues intentionally undermining mechanisms underpinning interstate relations and ignoring the diplomatic norms by using all kinds of dirty tricks. Paris followed in the footsteps of Washington by adopting bad visa practices. As a country hosting the UNESCO Headquarters, France failed to issue visas on time to several Russian representatives, preventing them from attending the 216th Session of the UNESCO Executive Board. Visa-related incidents of this kind with their obvious political bias are becoming a regular occurrence. By doing this, Paris has intentionally failed to honour its obligations as a host country.

📅 On September 7, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey #Lavrov attended the 18th East Asia Summit (#EAS) held in Jakarta.
During the exchange of views on the main issues on the Asia-Pacific agenda, the Minister informed his partners on Russia’s consistent approach to strengthening the architecture of equal and indivisible security in the region and ensuring its high development pace. He highlighted the importance of maintaining the mechanisms of multilateral cooperation within the framework of #AEAN coordinates in the spirit of a constructive non-politicised dialogue and creative cooperation based on the principles of consensus, mutual respect and a balance of interests.
☝️ Sergey Lavrov pointed out the risks of militarisation in East Asia in light of NATO’s efforts to install its forces and infrastructure in the region based on the West-created bloc mechanisms for network deterrence and the promotion of #AUCUS confrontational project, which provides for the deployment of a military strategic complex with a nuclear component in the region.
He emphasised the importance of building up practical effort within the EAS framework, including the implementation of the Russian initiatives on responding to epidemic threats, developing the tourism industry, and establishing sustainable ties between volunteer organisations in the Asia-Pacific region.
🤝 The Minister reaffirmed Russia’s resolve to create a solid framework of interstate cooperation in the region through the alignment of the capabilities of multilateral mechanisms that are working in the spirit of positive co-development, including the strengthening of constructive interaction between ASEAN, #SCO and #EAEU.

🎙 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey #Lavrov’s video address to participants in the 9th BRICS Legal Forum (Moscow, September 19, 2024)
💬 I would like to cordially greet the organisers and participants in the #BRICS Legal Forum, being held in this format for the ninth time.
Over the years, the Forum has asserted itself as an influential international platform that provides professional jurists with an excellent opportunity to exchange experience and applied knowledge in the field of regulating various spheres of public life and interstate collaboration.
I am noting with satisfaction that the Forum’s central theme, Law: Safeguarding a Fair World, meets the current agenda. It is common knowledge that countries of the US-led collective West strive to destabilise the existing system of international law and to replace it with their own pro-Western rules-based world order.
For its part, Russia is firmly committed to the principles of the UN Charter in their entirety and interconnection. We believe that unconditional compliance with the norms of international law is a highly important component of forging a more equitable multipolar world order heeding the cultural and civilisational diversity of nations worldwide and their sovereign right to decide their destiny.
🤝 I am delighted to note that our position enjoys the broadest support among like-minded BRICS countries and other states of the Global Majority.
Your meeting has a rather packed agenda. You will discuss a wide range of topical issues, including the international justice system, the legal dimension of international trade, as well as legal aspects of sport and energy cooperation.
I am confident that the Forum will take place in a constructive and creative setting, and that it will contribute to more effective legal collaboration and to charting common approaches towards the regulation of various aspects of cooperation within BRICS.
I wish you productive discussions.
