🎙 Remarks by President of Russia Vladimir Putin at the Plenary Session of the BRICS Business Forum (October 18, 2024)
💬 I am sincerely delighted to welcome everyone to the BRICS Business Forum.
I would like to note the wide representation of participants in this hall. We have leading business representatives from every country in the BRICS group.
Your companies have been successfully cooperating for a long time, implementing impressive joint projects across a variety of domains: industry and energy, transport and infrastructure, agriculture and the digital economy.
I would like to note, in particular, that this Forum is attended by business leaders from countries that became full participants on January 1, 2024. These are our colleagues and friends from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates.
👉 I would like to emphasise that as the current chair of #BRICS, Russia strives to facilitate integration of new members into all cooperation mechanisms. We saw that representatives from the new BRICS countries were warmly received in the Business Council, and they, too, became actively involved in its work.
The theme of Russia’s BRICS Chairmanship in 2024 is Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security.
A meaningful action plan is being implemented to advance the partners on three major tracks:
• politics and security,
• economy and finance,
• cultural and humanitarian ties.
To date, the progress on the plan exceeds 80%.
ℹ️ Over 200 events, meetings, conferences, and industry gatherings have been held, as well as most of the expert and ministerial meetings. However, the BRICS Summit, which will open next week in the Russian city of Kazan, will be the central event.
It is symbolic that the leaders’ meeting in Kazan is preceded by this Business Forum, which underscores the importance of close economic partnership between our countries, promoting trade and investment, and deepening cooperation.
The BRICS partners’ joint efforts aimed at accelerating socioeconomic growth and ensuring sustainable development bring concrete, tangible results and in fact, contribute to improving the well-being and quality of life of our countries’ citizens.
<...>
☝️ Among the BRICS leaders' top priorities is to promote business activity. <...> By helping and supporting each other, we will fulfil the main goal of ensuring positive progress, security and ultimately the well-being of the citizens of our nations.
❗️ BRICS is not oriented against anyone. It is aimed only at one common goal — sustainable development and prosperity of our countries and peoples.

The Golden Ring is considered the main tourist route of Russia. It includes eight main cities: Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Rostov Veliky, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Suzdal and Vladimir.
✨ To travel around all the cities on the Golden Ring, you will need at least a week!
And if you look at the small cities along a way, even a month is not enough.
🗺 This route was "drawn” on the map by Soviet journalist Yuri Bychkov in 1967. He came up with the idea that you could get from Moscow to Yaroslavl and Kostroma one way, through Vladimir and Suzdal, and return by another - through Rostov and Pereslavl-Zalessky.

📆 #OTD 80 years ago the Red Army troops and the National Liberation Army of #Yugoslavia liberated Belgrade from Nazis during the #Belgrade Strategic Offensive.
In September 1944, USSR and Yugoslavia agreed on the entry of Soviet troops in Belgrade and joint actions against Hitlerites.
⚔️ As part of the operation, in October 1944 allied forces breached enemy’s defence in Serbian Carpathians, encircled and defeated the main forces of the German Army Group “Serbia”.
🌟 On 20 October 1944, liberation of north-eastern & eastern parts of Yugoslavia as well as the capital itself was completed.
❗️ Enemy's losses amounted up to 45000 dead & captured prisoners-of-war. The success of the offensive made it possible for the Liberation Army to purge the rest Yugoslavia from the Nazis on its own.

🎵Check out the world-famous “Flight of the Bumblebee” authored by Russian composer Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov. Though initially crafted between 1899 and 1900 as an interlude for his renowned opera - “The Tale of Tsar Saltan,” the piece has grown into one of the most celebrated classical compositions, subject to its frequent usage in the popular culture.
🎹The composition is recognizable for its frantic pace when played up to tempo, with nearly uninterrupted runs of chromatic sixteenth notes. It imitates the insect “bumblebee,” flying and buzzing throughout – replicating its journey.
☝️The original piece was specifically intended for the orchestra, but it has experienced countless diverse arrangements for various instruments - both ensemble and solo. Most notably, it ended up being a popular piece for guitarists, who use it to display their technical prowess.

📆 81 years ago, during World War II, Nazis liquidated the Minsk Ghetto, one of the largest in German-occupied Belorussia housing some 100,000 Jews
The ghetto was created soon after the capture of Minsk in June 1941.
▪️Essentially, three camps were created in Minsk: the “big” ghetto encompassing 39 streets and lanes, the “small” one in the area of the Molotov Plant and the so-called “Sonderghetto” where Jews from other European countries were placed.
▪️The Minsk Ghetto was notable for its large scale resistance organization, which cooperated closely with Soviet partisans.
▪️On 21 October 1943, all the residents of the Minsk Ghetto were executed. There were only 13 survivors who hid in a house cellar and were freed after the liberation of Minsk by the Red Army in July 1944.
