Ukrainian FM Kuleba: “Russian FM Lavrov spreads disinfo by falsely alleging Ukraine wants to restore its nuclear arsenal. Once again: This is a cynical, blatant lie by Russia who itself fires at nuclear facilities in Ukraine. Safe zones must be established around them to prevent disaster in Europe.”

💬 #Zakharova: Just look at what kind of turncoats they are! Simply read their statements, read what the Ukrainian leadership has been saying publicly. There was also more said, behind the scenes.

This is how it goes:

💬 Secretary of the National Security Council Alexander Turchinov, April 2018:
“With all these events behind us, we can draw a conclusion that few will like. Giving up nuclear weapons was our historical mistake. The security guarantees are not even worth the paper on which they were written.”

💬 Head of the Servant of the People parliamentary group Davyd Arakhamia, July 29, 2021:
“I think that Kravchuk made a fatal mistake by getting rid of nuclear weapons after signing a meaningless memorandum. Basically, this mistake has been haunting us ever since. It dwarfs all the other mistakes by all other presidents. Had we been a nuclear power, everyone would have talked to us and sought to reach agreements in a different manner.”

💬 President Vladimir Zelensky, February 19, 2022:
“Since 2014, Ukraine has made three attempts to convene consultations of guarantor countries under the Budapest Memorandum. All three failed. Today, Ukraine is making its fourth attempt, which is my first attempt as President. Make no mistake, this is the last try for me, and for Ukraine. I am seeking to initiate consultations under the Budapest Memorandum, and instructed the Foreign Minister to convene the them. If they do not take place yet again or do not result in security guarantees for our state, Ukraine will have the right to view the Budapest Memorandum as a dead letter, which calls into question the entire package of decisions adopted in 1994.”

On the threshold of changes

By Oleg Karpovich and Mikhail Troyansky Pro-Rectors at the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Academy

From the first minute, the information war accompanying the Russian Federation’s special military operation in Ukraine has bred distorted and far-fetched interpretations of the Russian party’s goals and motives, with global media outlets, particularly the Western media, circulating them. For many months and even years, Moscow tried to inform the international public at large about the real-life situation and Russia’s concerns. However, these attempts were deliberately ignored. Efforts to demonise Russia have become ridiculous in the past few days, with the aim of replacing the facts of the matter with emotions and propaganda clichés.

So, what was the real cause of the special military operation?

First of all, the crisis around Donbass exacerbated the situation. For many years, Kiev brought this crisis to a boiling point by sabotaging the Minsk agreements <...> Western countries, including France and Germany, ignored Kiev’s ostentatious reluctance to follow in the wake of the peace process, year after year. <...> Moreover, Kiev beefed up its military potential along the line of contact to the maximum possible extent.

Second, throughout Ukraine, and especially in the country’s southeastern areas, the Ukrainian authorities implemented their official line aimed at oppressing the Russian-speaking population and any opponents of the country’s linguistic and ideological unification. In 2014, dozens of activists from pro-Russian movements were eliminated in Kharkov, Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk and some other cities. <...>

Read in full

The Ukrainian authorities had every opportunity to prevent a dramatic scenario, fraught with the sufferings of civilians, but they chose the road of confrontation. This confrontation must end as soon as possible, and this is now the only condition for de-escalating the protracted and explosive crisis around Ukraine.

✍️ Excerpts from the article by the Russian Foreign Ministry Diplomatic Academy’s Vice-Chancellors Oleg Karpovich and Mikhail Troyansky «Serbian scenario for Russia?»:

💬 For many people in Russia, the campaign to “cancel” our country, which resulted in an unprecedented rampage of banal Russophobia, came as an unexpected shock. Having introduced the principle of collective responsibility for all Russians in retaliation for Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, it may appear that the West has crossed the boundaries of ethics and common sense.

👉 In search of an analogy, one can go back to the early 1990s. Back then, Yugoslavia faced this kind of smear campaign for the first time. Its government “dared” to fight for the country’s territorial integrity.

<...>

❗️ A cynical attempt to use psychological warfare, blackmail and banal intimidation to force the citizens of Russia to oppose their state and their people will most likely have the completely opposite effect.

⚡️ #Opinion by Maria Zakharova:

What an amazing piece of American investigative reporting we have here.

It reveals that Kiev and its Western patrons have been manipulating the public opinion on a mind-blowing scale.

It turns out that the image cultivated by all Western media for a month now by casting Ukraine as a victim results from a sophisticated and systematic effort by very serious people, probably for a lot of money.

First, the jokes about the communication guidelines turned out to be true. They do exist with the best Western PR agencies drafting key messages and what words must be used and when. They make video compilations for broadcasts and issue recommendations on sources. There is a direct ban on using “unverified media,” i.e., those that were not approved in the West.

Yaroslav Turbil is described as a key figure of the Ukrainian propaganda machine. A native of Kiev, he is linked to US intelligence and is head of Ukraine.UA, a website operated by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry that often serves as a source of planted propaganda stories.

The investigative journalists analysed these propaganda materials and concluded that the Ukrainian propagandists seek to spin various topics like the Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant or the no-fly zone in Ukraine and serve them to a network of Western PR services, including the British PR Network and the US lobby groups like SKDKnickerbocker, Yorktown Solutions and Your Global Strategy. Those, in turn, have the experience of working with the Western media to deliver the right message to the Western audiences.

Judging by this investigation, those who masterminded this approach have partners, including Novaya Gazeta, Meduza, Dozhd, Mediazona and Russian-language services of the Western media such as the BBC.

This is a rigorous and differentiated effort. There are memes for the younger audience and serious political analysis for experts.

The authors of the investigation did not hide the mind-blowing scale of this system, which includes over 150 entities and major figures for communicating the Ukrainian vision of the conflict to the entire world.

Who pays for all this? This is not an easy question, but at least part of the PR effort is paid for by government subsidies allocated by the UK, the US and the Czech Republic, as well as entities belonging to billionaire George Soros, incredible as this may sound.

This giant squid has penetrated with its tentacles every TV set, website of major Western media and every newspaper to cultivate a worldview that is simple and clear. The creators of this mechanism couldn’t care less that it is at odds with reality.

The world has not seen a disinformation campaign of this kind since the cult of the Caesars.

❗️ The young are the target audience of the provocation in Bucha

By Oleg Karpovich, Pro-Rector of the Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Academy

A generational shift is underway among Western politicians.

The Economist, a mouthpiece of radical liberalism, recently published the results of a poll of the views of US citizens on the events in Ukraine. The editorial board was stunned by the outcome: half of Americans under 30 are not interested in who wins the conflict and a mere 47 percent of them still believe the propaganda myth of “the deliberate targeting of Ukrainian civilians by Russian forces.” Slightly more, 56 percent, sympathise with Ukraine to some extent, but this is still 36 points lower than for respondents over 30. Sociologists have also discovered a strong generational divide in views of the current crisis in France and Britain.

It appears that several months of mass brainwashing of the population in the West with anti-Russia clichés and disinformation failed to produce the desired effect. The most active and passionate segment of society – or, in simple terms, those to whom the future belongs – refuse to see Russia as an outright enemy and an absolute evil. This is surely concerning to the powers that be.

The generational shift in US and European politics may come very quickly. Some figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Marion Marechal-Le Pen broke into the political firmament at fairly young age. There is also Sebastian Kurz who became foreign minister at 27 and chancellor at 31. More wunderkinds are on the way. The so-called Millennials are rapidly strengthening positions thanks to their peers’ protest activities, and this trend will only accelerate.

<...>

The provocation in Bucha is designed not so much for older people, who already believe passionately in Russia’s evil, as for the younger generation. It is no accident that photos and videos from the scene flooded social media in the first minutes of this information campaign. The goals of the provocation are simple: to take the legs out from under all those who doubt the correctness of the Western “crusade” against Russia, to convince young Americans and Europeans to forget about the crimes of Ukrainian neo-Nazi, and to bury forever the hopes for constructive dialogue. Nobody will even think about ending the senseless sanctions on our country.

❗️ The perpetrators of this incident obviously smelled blood (both figuratively and literally) and are not going to stop. New discoveries and accusations are bound to follow. After all, this is no longer a psychological war against Russia, where over 80 percent of the population support President Vladimir Putin’s course of action and the chances of rocking the boat are close to zero. This is a war for the hearts and minds of people in Western countries. In launching this economic onslaught against Moscow, Washington and Brussels simply forgot to ask their opinion. However elaborate or cynical the next provocations may be, though, they will not change the general dynamics – time is not on the side of Biden and his allies. It is just a pity that the lives and fates of ordinary Ukrainians are again being used as a bargaining chip in this high-stakes game.
