On July 15, 1240 — 784 years ago — the forces of the Russian city-state of Novgorod under the command of Prince Alexander Nevsky triumphed over Swedish invaders who had invaded Novgorod's territory.
This event is known as the Battle of the Neva.
In the 13th century, Sweden sought to expand its dominions and establish control over the territories surrounding the Gulf of Finland. The invaders aimed to establish a fortress and convert the locals to Catholicism, but they encountered fierce resistance from the Novgorodians and their young Prince, Alexander Yaroslavich.
⚔️ The Swedes landed on the banks of the Neva, near the confluence of the Izhora River, close to modern-day Saint Petersburg. Alexander Nevsky swiftly assembled his forces and marched to meet the enemy. The battle was brief but intense, culminating in a decisive victory for the Russian warriors.
The victory at the Battle of the Neva thwarted further Swedish advancement eastward and strengthened the position of the Novgorod Republic. Alexander Nevsky became a national hero and a symbol of the defense of Russian lands against foreign invaders.
#DidYouKnow ❓ At the time of the Battle of the Neva, Alexander Yaroslavich was only 19 years old. He distinguished himself as a seasoned commander and a skilled warrior, fighting shoulder to shoulder with his troops. It was for this victory that the young prince earned the epithet of Nevsky.
Canonised in 1547, the Grand Prince is considered the patron saint of Russian diplomacy.

📅 8–12 июля в Нью-Йорке состоялась восьмая сессия Рабочей группы открытого состава (#РГОС) ООН по международной информационной безопасности #МИБ
По итогам мероприятия консенсусом принят третий ежегодный промежуточный доклад данного механизма, в котором нашли отражение многие элементы подходов России и её единомышленников к обеспечению МИБ.
Главным результатом напряжённой переговорной работы стало закрепление в документе консенсусного решения создать в ООН по завершении деятельности нынешней РГОС в 2025 году единый универсальный переговорный механизм по проблематике информбезопасности и согласование его ключевых параметров. Удалось сохранить сугубо консенсусную процедуру принятия решений при ведущей роли государств и закрепить в мандате формата-преемника РГОС задачу выработки норм юридически обязывающего характера.
🤝 Российская сторона готова к дальнейшему конструктивному участию в процессе уточнения деталей будущей структуры в ходе заключительного переговорного цикла РГОС (декабрь 2024 года - июль 2025 года).
Россия продолжит в качестве приоритета отстаивать необходимость создания справедливой системы МИБ, построенной на принципах равноправия, взаимоуважения, доверия и учётов интересов всех государств.

❓ Question: Many have noticed that tragedies happen in Ukraine [on schedule] ahead of important talks or NATO summits, and that they are publicly blamed on Russia.
💬 Sergey Lavrov: The Defence Ministry and the Foreign Ministry have made many comments on this. Your colleagues regularly raise this subject, keeping it from expiring. It is those who orchestrate these provocations that would like it to expire.
I will travel to New York next week. Russia holds the Security Council presidency this month. We will discuss multilateral cooperation and ensuring equal and indivisible security. Of course, we will also raise the issue of the West trying to manipulate everything and everyone.
I would like to hear their answer to a question we have asked dozens of times: Could we take a look at the list of people whose bodies the BBC showed in Bucha? It is a shame when an elementary question is left unanswered, just like the question about progress in investigating the terrorist attack on the Nord Stream gas pipelines. We should ask simple but concrete questions about everything else the West is blaming on us to send the ball back to their “court.”

🇷🇺🇰🇬🎖16 июля в Бишкеке состоялось открытие бюста Герою Советского Союза, татарскому поэту, военному корреспонденту Мусе Джалилю.
В мероприятии приняли участие заместитель Председателя Правительства Кыргызстана Э.Ж.Байсалов, Председатель Ассамблеи народа Кыргызстана А.А.Матубраимов, руководитель представительства Россотрудничества А.Ф.Зульхарнеев, заместитель Премьер-министра Татарстана В.Г.Шайхразиев, пресс-секретарь Посольства России А.А.Ростков, руководитель «Татаро-башкирского культурного центра «Туган тел» Г.Х.Ульмаскулова.
Муса Джалиль воевал на Ленинградском и Волховском фронтах. В июне 1942 г. пробиваясь из окружения, попал в плен.
Находясь в концлагере «Шпандау», он готовил побег. Одновременно вёл политическую работу среди пленных, выпускал листовки, распространял свои стихи, призывавшие к сопротивлению и борьбе. 25 августа 1944 г. казнен в Берлине.
Монумент установлен на территории школы-гимназии №29, которой предложено присвоить имя Мусы Джалиля.
