๐ท๐บ๐บ๐ณ On September 26, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres had a meeting on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
During the conversation, they discussed the current geopolitical environment and emerging trends, as well as reviewed the most urgent matters on the international agenda, including the situation in the Middle East and in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict zone, while paying special attention to Russia-UN cooperation in various aspects.
Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed the importance for UN senior executives and all members of the Secretariat to strictly adhere to the principle of impartiality and maintain an equidistant position, including when addressing the crimes perpetrated by the Kiev regime.
โ๏ธ He made an urgent appeal to Antonio Guterres not to allow UN agenciesโ representatives to be drawn into would-be peaceful initiatives in the context of the Ukraine crisis.
The Foreign Minister went on to draw the Secretary-Generalโs attention to the continued violations by the United States of the 1947 Agreement between the United Nations and the United States of America regarding the Headquarters of the United Nations. He noted that, faced with this situation, Antonio Guterres must initiate an arbitration procedure regarding the United States without delay, as required by several corresponding UN General Assembly resolutions.
๐ค Both Sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening constructive Russia-UN ties and reaffirmed their mutual support for the UNโs central coordinating role in international affairs, as well as full compliance with the provisions of the UN Charter, considering their interconnected nature.
