๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ”๏ธ #OTD, on September 26, 1969, 55 years ago, the Baikal Nature Reserve was founded. Located in the central part of the Hamar-Daban ridge, it has become an important site for the conservation and study of the unique nature of the Southern Baikal region.

๐ŸŒณ The reserve, covering an area of 167,871 hectares, includes a variety of landscapes: from East Siberian taiga to Mongolian steppes. Its territory is rich in lakes and mountain rivers with crystal clear water. The flora includes more than 800 species of higher plants, many of which are listed in the Red Book.

๐Ÿป The Baikal Reserve plays a key role in preserving the local fauna, being home to many species of animals, including sable, lynx, wolverine, reindeer and, of course, the โ€œmasterโ€ of the area โ€“ the brown bear. In addition to conservation activities, the reserve conducts scientific research, environmental education and develops ecotourism, offering visitors a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the beauty and richness of the Baikal nature.

๐ŸŽ™ Russia's President Vladimir Putin held a meeting of the Russian Federation Security Council standing conference on nuclear deterrence (September 25, 2024).

Key points:

โ€ข Alongside the Military Doctrine, this is a document that officially defines and details Russiaโ€™s nuclear strategy. First of all, it sets forth the basic principle of using nuclear weapons: the use of nuclear forces is the last resort measure to protect the countryโ€™s sovereignty.

โ€ข We have always been highly responsible in matters like this, being well aware of the colossal power these weapons have, striving to strengthen the international legal foundation for global stability and prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and their components.

โ€ข Our nuclear triad remains the most important security guarantee for our state and citizens, an instrument for maintaining strategic parity and balance of forces in the world.

โ€ข Over the last year specialists from the Defence Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Security Council Office and other agencies have made an in-depth and comprehensive analysis and evaluated the need for adjusting our approaches to a possible use of nuclear forces.

โ—๏ธ The updated version of the document is supposed to regard an aggression against Russia from any non-nuclear state but involving or supported by any nuclear state as their joint attack against the Russian Federation.

โš ๏ธ We reserve the right to use nuclear weapons in the event of aggression against Russia and Belarus as a member of the Union State. All these issues have been agreed upon with the Belarusian side and the President of Belarus.

โ€ข All the updates have been deeply calibrated and are measured against contemporary military threats and risks to the Russian Federation.
