๐Ÿ“† #OTD, on September 16, 1915, for the first time in the history of navigation, Boris Vilkitsky (1885-1961), Russian hydrographer and explorer of the Arctic, made a through route from Vladivostok to Arkhangelsk.

๐ŸŸฃThe expedition began in Vladivostok on July 7, 1914, on the icebreaking steamers โ€œVaygachโ€ and โ€œTaymyrโ€.

โ˜๏ธ During the expedition extensive scientific research was carried out: winds, currents, ice condition, depths of the northern seas were studied. The coordinates of the points of the southern coast of the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago were determined and the strait between the Kara Sea and the Laptev Sea, named in Vilkitsky's honor, was discovered. This voyage was a milestone in the history of world navigation and Arctic exploration.

๐ŸŽ™ Remarks by Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova at the opening of the BRICS Media Summit (13 -17 September, 2024) held today in Moscow.

๐Ÿ’ฌ BRICS does not seek to create new dividing lines based on bloc mentality. On the contrary, BRICS promotes synergy of different civilisations and advocates a collective approach to solving current problems.

โ€ข The BRICS philosophy is based on the traditions of equal dialogue, openness and consensus, respect for the development path chosen by the states, and consideration of each othersโ€™ interests.

โ€ข The countries of the association share similar views on the modern world, aspiration to multipolarity as a basis for sustainable development, commitment to the central coordinating role of the United Nations, principles and standards of international law.

โ€ข Yesterday, Russian journalists were subjected to aggression by the United States. This is not an accident, it is not a mistake, it is a chain of planned actions to which our journalists โ€“ Rossiya Segodnya, RT, Sputnik (even the guests of their broadcasts!) โ€“ have been subjected year after year for several years.

โ—๏ธ Support for your colleagues (Russian journalists and media outlets) ought to be expressed because the crime being committed against them is an attack on freedom of speech, an attack on the profession of journalism, an attack on human dignity. We must show solidarity.
๐ŸŒ On September 11, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai hosted the grand opening of the #BRICS Universe International Photo Exhibition organized with the support of the Consulate General of Russia in Mumbai.

๐ŸŸฃThe BRICS Universe project is a unique series of exhibitions featuring 40 photographs of the UNESCO Creative Cities from the BRICS countries. The photographs were taken both from Earth and from the ISS by cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Ivan Wagner.

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš€ The ceremony was attended by Hero of Russia, pilot-cosmonaut Sergey Kud-Sverchkov, Deputy Consul General of Russia in Mumbai Maxim Aleshin, Chairman of the NCPA KN Suntook, Director of the Nehru Planetarium in Mumbai Arvind Paranjpye, Russian compatriots and residents of the city.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Deputy Consul General Maxim Aleshin underscored that the exchange of culture, art and traditions among the BRICS countries contributes to the formation of a common identity and partnership based on mutual respect and understanding.

โœ๏ธ The programme included a film on the modern achievements of Russian cosmonautics and a quiz. The event ended with a creative meeting and an autograph session with Sergey Kud-Sverchkov.

๐Ÿ“† The exhibition in Mumbai will be open till September 28. Previously, it was presented in Moscow, St Petersburg, Rio de Janeiro, Kargopol, Beijing, Ulyanovsk and Nizhny Novgorod. By the end of October, the project will also cover Cape Town and Kazan.
