๐Ÿ“† 88 years ago, on 7 July 1936, Soviet diplomat Georgy Chicherin passed away, who served as Peopleโ€™s Commissar for Foreign Affairs in 1918 โ€“ 1930.

He was born to a noble family thought to be related to Alexander Pushkin.

๐ŸŽ“ Georgy Chicherin entered the imperial diplomatic service after graduating from the University of St.Petersburg (1897) but became involved in the Russian revolutionary movement and resigned in 1904.

He resumed his diplomatic career in 1918 participating in the final stage of negotiations in Brest-Litovsk with Germany and subsequently assuming the post of Peopleโ€™s Commissar for Foreign Affairs.

๐Ÿค As a chief of Soviet diplomacy, Georgy Chicherin concluded treaties with Estonia, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and Germany contributing to breaking the international isolation imposed on Soviet Russia after the October Revolution of 1917.

โœ๏ธ He spoke all major European languages and a number of Asian ones.

๐Ÿ“† #OTD, on July 8, 1709, a battle, which largely determined the course of history, took place in the fields of Poltava.

๐Ÿ“ 315 years ago, the Russian army led by Peter I soundly defeated the troops of Charles XII, put an end to the Swedish expansion and laid the foundation for the formation of Russia as a great power.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ The Battle of Poltava has truly become a symbol of military valor. In its memory, July 10 was fixed in Russia as the Day of Military Honour, while the clash itself had been reflected in many works of Russian classics, including Alexander Pushkinโ€™s poem "Poltava".

โ—๏ธThe outcomes of the battle cannot be overestimated โ€” even back in the XIX century, Russian publicist and critic Vissarion Belinsky underscored the importance of the Russian victory for the world history.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ #OTD, on July 8, Russia celebrates the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity!

๐Ÿก This is a relatively young holiday โ€” it appeared in 2008. On this day, Orthodox Christians honor the memory of Peter and Fevronia of Murom, who are considered the patrons of marriage and family. This holiday emphasizes the importance of the family as the foundation of society and contributes to the maintenance of traditional values.

โค๏ธ On this day, we would like to wish everyone strong family ties, mutual respect, love and care.

๐ŸŒป It is so important to tell your loved ones about your feelings, spend more time together and appreciate every minute spent with your family!

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ On July 8, 2024 President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi held an informal meeting at the presidential residence in Novo-Ogaryovo, Moscow Region.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Vladimir Putin: We will hold official talks tomorrow, and today we can discuss the issues on our agenda unofficially, in a quiet and comfortable atmosphere.

<...>

But first I would like to congratulate you on being re-elected as Prime Minister. I think that there is a good reason for that. It is the result of the many years of your work at the helm of government. You have ideas of your own, you are a very energetic person, you know how to get results to benefit India and its people. And the outcome is obvious: India is the third-largest economy in the world. It is probably the largest country in the world by population, 1.4 billion people. <...> You have devoted your whole life to serving the Indian people, and they are aware of that.
