๐Ÿ“† On May 15, the Russian consular service employees at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic missions and consular offices of Russia abroad celebrate their professional holiday - the Consular Officer's Day.

๐Ÿ“ #OTD in 1809, by the decision of Emperor Alexander I, an Expedition of Consular Affairs was established within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Empire. What is more interesting is that the first Russian consulate was opened 102 years earlier - in 1707 in Amsterdam.

โž•Over the years, Russian consular officials have continued to protect the rights and legitimate interests of Russian compatriots, issue visas, facilitate trade and economic relations, shipping and air traffic. Our consuls issue citizenship, serve as notaries, register marriages, births and deaths, take measures in the spheres of sanitary, phytosanitary and veterinary protection, and in preserving military cemetaries abroad.

โ€ผ๏ธ Despite the holiday, on May 15, 2024, the Consular Section of the Russian Embassy in India is receiving visitors as usual. We are waiting for you from 10 am to 2 pm!

๐Ÿš‡ #OTD in 1935, the Moscow Metro began operating โ€” with a single 11,2 km line serving 13 stations.

๐Ÿ“ˆ 89 years later, the capitalโ€™s subway system is renowned for being one of the biggest and comprehensive transit networks in the world. Today, Moscow Metro is developing more rapidly than ever: stations are being built and opened at a record pace, new lines are being designed, modern and comfortable trains are being launched, and the ticket system and passenger services are constantly improving.

โ“‚๏ธ By 2024, the total length of metro lines in Moscow has reached more than 466 km, including 263 stations and 14 lines.

๐Ÿฅฐ The Moscow subway is rightly called the most beautiful in the world โ€” 44 of its stations are listed as cultural heritage sites, being truly underground museums and palaces.

๐Ÿ—“ On May 15, 2018, Crimean Bridge went operational - a solemn opening ceremony and first drive took place. It united mainland Russia with the peninsula via the Kerch Strait.

This impressive infrastructure project symbolises Crimeaโ€™s reunification with Russia. This unique road artery has revitalised and completely changed the region, giving a powerful impetus to its socioeconomic development.

โš™๏ธ The construction of the Crimean Bridge, which began in 2016, was a truly historic event. Over 10,000 people took part in the construction of the century - sappers, ecologists, archaeologists, scientists, designers, engineers, and workers.

The 19 km-long bridge โ€“ the longest in Europe โ€“ consists of two parallel parts โ€“ the railway and the motorway. It starts in Taman, passes over Tuzla Island, crosses the Kerch Strait and reaches the Crimean coast. In May 2018, the motorway span was put into service in a record time (27 months). Freight traffic was opened in the autumn of the same year, while the railway bridge was completed a bit later โ€“ in December 2019.

๐Ÿ“ˆ The bridge has enhanced logistics access to Crimea, promoting the development of tourism, transport and trade โ€“ the key economic sectors that provide the republic with one third of its gross product.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin took part in the opening ceremony. At the head of a convoy of three dozen trucks, he drove a KAMAZ over the bridge in 16 min., thus personally testing its strength.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Russia's President Vladimir Putin (15.05.2018): โ€œIn fact, the whole country worked on this bridge. This is an excellent result that has made Crimea and the legendary Sevastopol stronger and brought us closerโ€

๐Ÿ’ฌ Russia's MFA Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (12.08.2023): "The Crimean Bridge is a purely civilian infrastructure facility. <...> Unable, despite the massive Western aid, to change the situation on the contact line, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are attempting to retaliate against civilian infrastructure and peaceful civilians by using underhand terrorist methods"

๐Ÿ“‰ In the modern world, financial risks continue to grow, and there are a large number of cases of financial fraud. Often children and even adults become victims of criminals.
โ”Under these conditions, how can we recognize the threat of fraud and avoid making payments and transfers in favor of fraudsters? What precautions should be taken when using and dealing with different types of money?
๐Ÿ“š A lesson on financial security organized by the Russian House in New Delhi was intended to answer these and other questions. Various situations related to difficult choices and options for solving them were analyzed.
๐Ÿ‘ฅ The participants of the seminar were students from Delhi universities and Russian language courses of the RCSC.

๐ŸŽ™ Acting Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov answers questions during a plenary session of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation (Moscow, May 14, 2024)

Key talking points:

โ€ข Western efforts to preserve its hegemony have entered a critical phase. <...> China has emerged as a leader of global growth. This fact does not sit well with the US, which, along with its satellites, having brought the rest of the West to its heel, made a doctrinal statement that they cannot allow anyone to become stronger or more influential than Washington. So, objectively, alongside our Chinese colleagues we are interested in continuing to lead the efforts to establish a fairer and more democratic world order.

๐Ÿค The duo of Moscow and Beijing is playing a crucial balancing role in international affairs. I am confident that the upcoming visit of President Vladimir Putin to China will further strengthen our joint efforts.

โ€ข Following the expansion of #BRICS, our representation in the #G20 has increased. Half of the G20 members are either BRICS members or share similar perspectives with us. Therefore, the G20 will undergo positive transformations emphasising the inclusion of the interests of other regions of the world and groups of countries rather than representing the interests of the "collective West".

โ€ข We have numerous allies, and I have no doubt that we will have more of them which will contribute to democratising international relations, where every nation will have a rightful place of its own in global affairs based on its fair and actual contribution to the global economy, politics, and security system, as opposed to blackmail, threats, and ultimatums used by the West.

๐ŸŒ During the second Russia-Africa Summit, there were numerous plenary sessions and bilateral contacts with individual sub-regional African associations. <...> This is one of the main items on the agenda, including the implementation of the Declaration and Action Plan adopted at the second Summit.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ ๐Ÿค ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ On May 15 in New Delhi, the customs services of Russia and India signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement of Authorized Economic Operators (AEO).

โœ๏ธ The document was signed by First Deputy Head of the Russian Federal Customs Service Ruslan Davydov, who led the Russian delegation on the visit, and the head of the Indian customs โ€” the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs Sanjay Kumar Agarwal.

๐Ÿ“‘ The Russian-Indian agreement on mutual recognition of national institutions of an authorized economic operator became the 5th document of this type for Russia and the 6th one โ€” for India. It opens up new opportunities for introducing a mechanism within the bilateral trade that allows for additional simplifications in terms of customs administration for the most conscientious category of participants in foreign economic activities โ€” companies with an AEO status.

๐Ÿ’ฌ During the talks, Ruslan Davydov and his Indian colleague also discussed the arrangement of electronic exchange of information about goods and vehicles, customs law enforcement, training of customs personnel, customs cooperation in BRICS, as well as the participation of the two countriesโ€™ customs services in the development of the International North-South Transport Corridor.

Extracts from Russian President Vladimir Putinโ€™s recent interview (May 15, 2024)

<โ€ฆ>

Q: This year, Russia has assumed the BRICS Chairmanship. Please tell us about Russia's priorities and plan of events as the BRICS Chair. How do you see the role of the BRICS mechanism in the global arena?

A: Russiaโ€™s BRICS Chairmanship has gained a steady momentum. Full-scale work is underway on all three main pillars of cooperation โ€” politics and security, economy and finance, culture and people-to-people contacts.

One of the main goals of Russiaโ€™s Chairmanship is undoubtedly the seamless integration of the BRICS new members. We are actively assisting them in joining the existing network of cooperation mechanisms.

As another priority, we seek to continue coordinated work to enhance visibility of the association in global affairs & build its capacity to promote a more democratic, sustainable and fair architecture of international relations. I would like to particularly stress that cooperation within BRICS relies on the principles of mutual respect, equality, openness and consensus. That is why countries of the Global South & East, which see BRICS as a platform for their voices to be certainly heard and taken into account, find our association so attractive.

Russian agencies, business and public circles have prepared an extensive agenda for the Chairmanship. This includes a wide range of areas for enhancing interaction, including finance, agriculture, energy, intellectual property, healthcare, education & space exploration. Moreover, such niche and knowledge-intensive topics as nanotechnology, nuclear medicine & biotechnology are being discussed by experts in relevant fields.

We have held quite a few specialized events: in total, the Chairmanship plan envisages more than 200 of them. In addition to expert and ministerial meetings, they include numerous cultural events & youth activities. The BRICS Sports Games will take place in Kazan in June, and in October, the city will host the BRICS Summit.
