Technicolor Group that used to have 11000+ workers in 2021 and 4500+ right now, can be closed (some departments as soon as this Monday).

The map shows locations for MPC, The Mill, Mikros Animation, plus service provider Trace VFX, as of mid-2024. Technicolor Games employed around 330 additional people (not shown), almost all in India.

Before you conclude that MPC's dramatic reduction was part of a general trend across the VFX industry, none of the four other largest VFX studios in the world saw anything like this kind of reduction. Framestore, Industrial Light & Magic, and Wētā FX seem to have modestly increased their headcount between late 2022 and the end of 2024.

DO NOT UPDATE NVIDIA DRIVERS ANYTIME SOON

Folks, I see more and more reports regarding NVIDIA cards (both online and among people I know). The recent NVIDIA driver that came out a couple of days ago makes some GPUs unresponsive (aka Black Screen).

The same was initially reported about RTX 50 a couple of weeks ago, but the most recent driver causes the same issue on RTX 30 and 40 series of cards.

The company asked for a Cover Letter in 2025, so in the last paragraph I hid a request to send a “meow” in response if they really read those letters.

As noted in Unity's latest 10-K filing, the company employed a total of 4,987 full-time workers across 34 offices in 17 countries as of December 31, 2024.

⚠️ By contrast, the company previously employed 6,746 full-time staffers across 57 offices in 19 countries as of December 31, 2023.

‼️ It means Unity has cut ties with precisely 1,761 full-time staff members over the past 12 months and closed 23 offices in the process.

Before counting people who were fired in addition a couple of weeks ago in 2025. (Alex Rehm)
