It's not the first report of that type and Phil Spencer should do something about it... Several studios discussed similar stories — Sony gave them all the support they can imagine and Microsoft just barely replies at all.

There was Unite 2024 (#Unity conference) and they announced way more than just the end of Unity Fee:
— They are now focused on making it solid — all the DOTS and other modules will be integrated into the core, URP and HDRP are going to merge into one scalable pipeline, and more.
The engine should not be a mess of semi-usable blocks. But the majority of big changes are planned for Unity 7. While Unity 6 is aiming to make it finally easy to move from one version to another without breaking literally everything in the project.
